Sarah Palin (Good Luck)

Anyone else think she should bow out now before she embarrasses herself, McCain, and America anymore?

I pretty much can't stand Palin, and McCains attempt at grabbing Hillary's women votes pretty much failed. Once the buzz of Palin leveled off, Obama has regained his position amongst women, and on top of that, McCain is now losing their support even faster than before.

Oh well, the VP debate should be entertaining at least.

Wow, Politicians saying stupid things assembled together on YouTube; there's a shocker. You could do this with any politician and make them sound ridiculous. Of course, the internet crowd is so in the tank for Obama any assault on his character is either racism/ignorance/stupidity or some combination of all three, so you're not going to see to many of those. If I want to see stupidity, let's get it from both sides...

I don't think you understand those clips are essentially ALL of what she's ever said to the media in her entire career. This isn't some sort of spin factor, this is Sarah Palin literally not knowing anything. She's an empty shell, and it's what McCain gets for picking her as his VP after only meeting her twice.

She really is a sweet talking hockey mom, unfortunately she isn't a politician, and while in some ways that might be good, it's not good when you know nothing about other countries as well as your own country.

She in fact is more articulate and well-versed when it comes to topics other than foreign policy and other areas in which she's weak (which is true for most people) --

So she's not like, stupid or anything. Not that I like her or agree with her in particular.

Need I remind you that this woman will be one step away from the presidency if Mccain wins, and McCain would be the oldest president in ages if he is elected, and the leadership of a nation is a VERY stressful job. As a number of people have said, she is a 72 year old heartbeat away from the presidency.

She's not stupid or dumb or anything. I'm pretty sure she's smart, and I might actually like her as a person (except for a few of her philosophies/policies.) The problem is she's never been involved and admitted to never being particularly interested in national politics until McCain picked her.

It's not that she's dumb, it's just that she hasn't had time to learn everything she needs to.

McCain is old, he has a history of health problems, and being in office won't help. It is a possibility he could die during office, and that means Palin would be president. Palin is a clueless boob and would likely cock everything up.

And you really think that a president on his own, given our last two administrations, is in such a level of control?

It's not a conspiracy theory, they're just one part of a large whole.

I'm not sure what you're asking here? I think Palin is infinitely dumber and less experienced than Bush, if that's what you mean.

Who said anything about a conspiracy theory? No one thinks that Palin is being set up for presidency. She's just a bad pick that has a possibility of ending up as President, and that would be very bad.

I watched the Couric interviews last night and while I have no problem at all with a woman in office, I am pretty appalled at the idea of it being her.

I really feel that if Palin does make it into office, she's pretty much going to sabotage the efforts of any other woman who tries afterwards for a long time, because people will look back at her as proof that women shouldn't be in office.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

To be fair, Nancy Peloci does a fabulous job of that as it is. How an incompetent fool like her ever managed to become Speaker of the House I will never understand. But I digress.

I'm not sure why people are so worried about McCain's health. 72 isn't that old anymore with how long people are living. Sure, he had a history of health problems, but the major one was a cancer that has an incredibly high survival rate for people who have lived cancer free as long as he has. He has been active in his office of Senator ever since and being on the campaign trail like he has doesn't seem to have affected his health either. I don't see this as near big an issue as people are making it out to be.
Life is beautiful.

I'm kind of hoping McCain loses. I used to think he was a "maverick" until he pulled this Palin stunt in order to appease the evangelists and any retarded Clinton supporters. Normally I wouldn't care, but he had some VP options that complimented him very well and instead he decides to pull this crap.

Of course, I can't give Obama props either for his VP pick. It was better than McCain's but still pretty bad considering other options.

Okay now that I actually watched the video... How can you NOT see that this is a spin. Its edited to make her look more stupid.

That said, I'm really bothered by the fact John McCain is trying to cover what she said in that other interview about the Bush Doctrine / attacking Pakistan and places. >_<

Yeah, I mean Palin is like a valley girl with downs syndrome compared to, say, Romney or somebody. This is just really, really stupid. I can't believe anyone is taking that ticket seriously.

Oh my god. I'm watching some videos of Palin on YouTube. Real interviews, not out-of-context crap. She really doesn't have a clue. In one of them, she said she was in favor of abortion being a state issue, then said "in that sense I'm a federalist."

Yeah... she doesn't know her own country at all. She's braindead ****ing stupid. I don't think Biden is the best VP candidate ever (mostly because of things like net neutrality that I'm rather adament about), but at least he knows what's going on. If I needed another reason not to vote for McCain, she would be it. Someone like her should never be in any position of power.

That's not a misunderstanding of "federalist." The reservation of power to sub-autonomous units (states) is an important aspect of federalism. It helps distinguish a federalist state from a centrist state.

It's not particularly the most descriptive word in this situation, but I don't think you can really say she doesn't know what she's talking about just because she said it made her a federalist. The fact that she's concerned about the issue from the stand point of "should it be a state or federal power" means that she is taking a federalist approach to the question. It's a different way of approaching the question then say, a rights-based approach.

She correctly uses the term "federalist." But then in the very next response she undercuts herself and claims that she believes the Constitution protects a right to privacy, which--as Couric points out--is the cornerstone of the Roe v Wade decision.

So how can she say that the Constitution protects the right to privacy (thus making it a federal issue), yet also claim that it is a states' rights issue? She doesn't know what she is talking about.

Quote:
Couric Why, in your view, is Roe v. Wade a bad decision?

Sarah Palin: I think it should be a states' issue not a federal government-mandated, mandating yes or no on such an important issue. I'm, in that sense, a federalist, where I believe that states should have more say in the laws of their lands and individual areas. Now, foundationally, also, though, it's no secret that I'm pro-life that I believe in a culture of life is very important for this country. Personally that's what I would like to see, um, further embraced by America.

Couric: Do you think there's an inherent right to privacy in the Constitution?

Palin: I do. Yeah, I do.

Couric: The cornerstone of Roe v. Wade.

Palin: I do. And I believe that individual states can best handle what the people within the different constituencies in the 50 states would like to see their will ushered in an issue like that.

Couric: What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?

Palin: Well, let's see. There's, of course in the great history of America there have been rulings, that's never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are those issues, again, like Roe v. Wade, where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know, going through the history of America, there would be others but …

Couric: Can you think of any?

Palin: Well, I could think of … any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level. Maybe I would take issue with. But, you know, as mayor, and then as governor and even as a vice president, if I'm so privileged to serve, wouldn't be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today.
[/size]

She'll do fine, probably even great in the VP debate. Expectations are low, and she'll come across as folksy and get in a few memorized zingers at Obama.

She stalls while speaking about things SO MUCH. Even if she does speak well about certain things, you'd think she could figure out something better to say about other Supreme Court rulings. You know, something other than "Since America started there have been other Rulings"

Palin is, regardless of sex or party, a complete ****ing idiot. Several schools over the course of six years to get a journalism/communications degree from a school that doesn't have an independently notable J-school? That alone suggests to me that she's every bit as dumb as her least flattering interviews demonstrate.

The toreador metaphor for Biden's strategy is apt. (Note: I may have made this metaphor up; I haven't seen it anywhere else.) Biden doesn't have to kill the bull outright. He just has to stay out of its way until it runs itself to death.
