Trying to connect PC to TV
2008-10-07, 5:27 AM #1
So, I bought a new TV and I'm trying to connect my PC. I'm using the TV out on my videocard and I'm connecting to the TV with scart. (I know VGA works better, but for now I'm going with the scart cable since my PC and TV are ten metres apart and it is the only cable I have of that length)

This setup used to work fine with my old TV, but somehow it doesn't with my new one.

The problem is I'm getting a B&W picture in Windows. (I have XP) As long as the PC is booting, I'm getting a full colour picture, but as soon as I get to the login screen it turns B&W.

Fiddled around with my Nvidia settings, but there's not much I can change besides choosing B-Pal or G-Pal. It doesn't seem to make a difference. I also tried both scart inputs on my TV, but no difference there either.

My guess is, it's a Windows setting but I just can't figure it out.

Any idea how I could solve this?

are you trying to just watch video or you in clone mode to work/play games on the TV? if its just video, make sure your settings for fullscreen video in the nVidia settings are set just for the monitor, and not for the TV as well.
My girlfriend paid a lot of money for that tv; I want to watch ALL OF IT. - JM

I do both. Thanks, I'll look into that.

Hmmm, where do I find these settings? I've looked in Nview properties and the nVidia control panel, but I can't seem to find any settings for fullscreen video.

SCART sockets are pretty much only used outside of America, I think.

Yep, seems that way.

Yeah I'm in Europe. I assumed scart was pretty universal. I had no idea. It was used for VHS players and recorders over here as well. Anyway, it connects to my TV out and my Audio out. And yes, those are scart cables.
