Good Old Games now in open beta

This thing is such a good concept that I'm gonna plug it here. Classic (and some newer, but not the latest) games, DRM free, XP and Vista compatible, low enough prices. A bunch of games come with freely downloadable MP3 soundtracks.

They don't have a big catalog yet as they just opened up. They were in what I would consider semi-closed beta for a while, now they're in open beta, as I noted in the title.

So go sign up!
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

When I get my XP laptop back from my sister (whose laptop has died) I might invest in MDK and Shogo. Better yet, some Redneck Rampage!

(I wonder if they have/will ever have Outlaws..?)

Yeah but non-nerds might struggle to get the compatibility to work. I'd gladly pay the prices they show to have the hassle taken away from me.

But then again I'm a lazy git when I'm out of the office.

Pretty simple to run comptability mode, even for technology cows. If all else fails, dosbox is pretty self explanitory.

Alot of those games are abandonware it looks like, I'd rather save my money and just download them from torrents.

Maybe it's just me, but for the price of 2 pints I just don't agree with you. Four quid for hours of entertainment, delivered lovingly to your PC with fresh new installers that just work with no f***ing about is pretty darn reasonable in my eyes. Maybe I'm just getting old and careless with my money now I've left uni and got a job, but sod it - when I get my lappy back from my sister gog.com will be receiving a pleasant slice of my hard earned and I'll gladly receive a wave of gooey eyed nostalgia and feel all the better for it.

Sort of...there are two EULAs. The one in the installer says it's okay to make copies and distribute them to your friends for free (and we're all friends on this internets) but the EULA that gets installed to your HD doesn't have that line. People pirating a ten-year-old game is probably kind of low on Interplay's radar, however.

But for the real FS experience you should go to hard-light.net and play the FS2 SCP. It's pretty amazing.
