Way to make yourself sound really pretentious, f***head. That whole statement would have been miles better without that condescending 'But I guess some people are into that sort of thing' part. :carl:

I just installed Kubuntu this evening after work and it's pretty neat so far.
Only thing I miss from Gnome is an applet to show the temperature outside. :p

There's an app for that. At least I'm fairly certain. In the good old days there was >.>

Thats a matter of personal taste. Personally, I consider the vast majority of the setups posted here to be pretty horrible.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

I would be willing to venture that everyone else thinks your "personal taste" is terrible.

In my opinion, I've seen 13 year old girls with backstreet boy themes that looked better than your terrible mish-mash of textures and color schemes.:suicide:

Actually, there is a lot of science behind visual design, psychology related, about what is visually appealing to the human brain. Of course personal taste is a variable, but by most of these rules, your setup is awful.

Basically what I'm saying is that your brain is broken.

But this is not new information.

Yeah GBK, you should know better than to like something that you set up for your own personal use. :gbk:

Bah. Temporarily given up on ubuntu again. It seems I can take advantage of my video card's acceleration for translucency and whatever other neat compiz effects [or at least not have dragging windows look awful and stuttery], but only if I want to have have all my video playback flash and jitter and cut in and out in epic seizure-ville.

That could be acceptable if I had some really dodgy off-brand old-bum card, but it seems to be pretty much normal for anyone with a newer ATI or nVidia card [eg my ATI HD 4850]. I tried a couple posted fixes, but they either resulted in: a- lack of acceleration to the point that even video playback was laggy, or b- black screens of death.

Has anyone here overcome that somehow?
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

Maybe gbk is colorblind. Have you guys taken that into consideration? :gbk:

Dormouse: I had problems with flash before (i.e. youtube), but otherwise nothing with my video card. I don't quite clearly understand the full extent of your problem, however.

I may not have been clear. Any video that I play, eg avi in mplayer/vlc/&c will flash in and out, showing the background or windows behind it several times a second making it completely unwatchable.

And you say translucency for compiz is enabled?
