NaNoWriMo MeGaThreAd 2009

Welcome to the National Novel Writing Month Measuring Gadge Threat Advisory 2009 thread. This thread is intended to see who is writing for the NaNoWriMo event, and subsequently, target them as a threat for all others to see, for being crazy to participate in such useless events.

As for myself, I will be writing, of course, fantasy. A fantasy where elves are hard to find, orcs eat hobbits (like in the book Orcs), and necromancers and **** rule and are the awesome archetype antagonist. This is subject to drastic change.

I'm seriously getting pissed off at all the people sending me e-mails this year about it though.

Anyways, quick show of hands for who will be participating?

EDIT: Sorry, I mean, the orcs eat elves. Hobbits eat humans. Sorry.

Totally failed last year. Won't even lie this year.

I'm finally going to give it a try this year, though I have my doubts I'll make it past day one. I, too, will be writing a sort of fantasy story, but my story will take place in a world where what you see in the commercials and such comes to life, a world oppressed by the evil commercial empires. ("But that's not fiction! Har har!") Will our plucky protagonists be able to bring them down to their knees and save their world from such evil? We'll see...

Whoo me!!

I'm writing cyber-noir about a gritty investigative reporter who falls on the wrong side of the interstellar evil telephone corporation and gets sentenced to work in their dark-matter mines.. full of angry grues, and an emerging AI.

Throw in a dash of ensuing hilarity and I'm sold.

jEDIkIRBY: You can do it!

(I say this with much eloquence!)

This will be my... sixth? Something like that.

I'd join in if they allowed novels that were already started. But at the very least I intend to match the 50,000 word challenge.

Cool Matty, join anyway. Nobody actually cares about the rules.

On the other hand : Joining on the official website is pointless anyway. I haven't even been there in two years, and I still participate.

An online friend told me about this contest, and its sister contest in April, Script Frenzy. I was mildly interested (I have written a 117 page screenplay and have been working on the sequel for four months now) until I find out that there aren't really any rewards for it. Winning the "contest" is nothing more than a "Good job, you wrote a 100 page screenpage. We don't care if it's crappy or not, have a pat on the back and a sticker."

Can someone please tell me what NanoWrimo is? I've heard of it before, Googled up a few pages, but if someone would care to summarise in a couple of words, I'd really appreciate. Also, do you have to be American to participate?
