Helping Friends Move...

Isn't it always fun? You really learn who your true friends are when it's time to move though. I helped a friend of mine since high school move last night and he lived in a house with 5+ of his so called 'friends' and only one of them helped us for about 20 minutes.

Anyone else hate moving?

Try working for a moving company. 11-13 hour days, 40 degree weather (celcius) and ignorant people sometimes that don't appreciate the fact that you're moving their stuff. All that and more for 8 bucks an hour.

Not to mention that there are so many safety regulations the company I worked for ignored or purposely broke it's not even funny.

I used to work for a transport company before having my own, and we made moves too. I quit after i had to move some dead guy's stuff out from his apartment, to junkyard. The man had been lying there dead for 3 months, and the smell was awful. The other guy i was there with had to throw up a few times. We had to keep the windows and door open even though it was -25⁰C outside.

Yep. I remember we did deliveries for the local furniture stores and we had to take people's old beds outside. Wet, damp, moldy (believe it if you can), pee-stained and freshly pee'd on, fecal matter, blood, etc. It was disturbing.

As I routinely remind my friends: "a friend will help you move; a real friend will help you move bodies."

I tend to rely more on family for moving. I move about 75% of my things by myself. I find that most "friends" are rather useless in this department. Most people that I know are a bit lazy.
? :)

Last time I helped someone move it ended in a drunken naked near-orgy.

I'd definitely do THAT again.

Moving turning into an Orgy happens more than I would think? Well once is more than I would think...

I personally would not have wanted that to happen. Being that it was his whole family and his gf helping him move besides myself.

Except if it was an orgy... it would have been 67% incest. (Yes I did the math...)

Moving isnt so bad as long as there is beer available during and afterward. It actaully improves productivity because you wont feel any sore muscles or back pain until the next day.

Although now that I think about it, I guess Beer pretty much makes anything not so bad.

My parents are too old and my brothers are too straight for incest. :(
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

The last time I helped a friend move was around March or April, I think. It was my best friend moving out of his parents' house for the first time. We packed stuff up until about 1 AM, then drove it all in one load (using his parents' van and my car). Brought a couple of things into the house that night but left most of it to be unpacked the next day. The worst part of it was his bed, he has a queen sized mattress with box spring. Those things are heavy and awkward as hell to maneuver. We strapped it to the roof of the van but really did not have enough rope/straps, so it was pretty sketchy. We drove like 60 km/h down a 100 km/h expressway with both of us talking to each other on the phone the whole time because we were afraid the thing was going to go flying off the roof if we went any faster. Good times.

I'm probably moving out of my parents' house in the next few months, and though I'm looking forward to it, I'm dreading the actual move. I have so much crap it's ridiculous. I guess it will be a good opportunity to sort through everything and get rid of stuff I don't need. You might be seeing a "free computers" thread or similar from me soon.
