Q: How do move a 45-ton concrete block by yourself?

Absolutely amazing. That method to raise the block is so simple that it boggles the mind. The only thing I wonder is how come the wood used to raise the block doesn't shatter under the sheer weight of the block.

****, re-watched the video and I guess it's 19,000 pounds, not 90,000. Still, pretty damn cool.

I caught this on TV a couple years ago... very impressive.
Really goes to show you how people had to rely on their ingenuity before we had the resources to make machines.

This is actually just one of a few ways to do it. Very cool.

Actually, stonehenge was 'restored' from 1900-1970. We have no idea if it actually looked like that in the first place.

(Also, saying no one knows how they were moved is true; but saying that no one knows how to move them is wrong. There's a fairly simple solution that involves burying the uprights, positioning the top, and then digging them out.)

Right, we only know the ways in which they could have been put into place.

We don't even know if they WERE put in place.

How to build Stonehenge:

1. Build wooden forms in the shape of the stones you want
2. Fill forms with concrete, let harden
3. Voila! Stonehenge!

It's how I'd do it anyway :saddowns:

Very good. Now i'd like like to see him pivot the blocks on stones over uneven boggy groung rather than a solid concrete base. personally i think they just used log roller and man power.

They blatently just had 20 fully grown, really strong, wild men. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard...

Yeah I saw that video. I used that method to move really large beams around for construction of our new house.
DO NOT WANT.

Yeah, if you're going to cheat and use concrete, why not do it the easy way? That's what concrete is for. That's just the cynical part of me talking, though. I'm sure it's because there aren't exactly very many stonehenge-shaped rocks lying around.

Also I'm wondering how much rebar is in that thing to keep it from splitting when he see-saws it and it strikes the ground.

Also, I saw this in the comments for the video:

Quote:
he diameter of the inner stones = 50,4feet
the diameter of the outer stones = 79,2feet

the diameter of the earth = 7920miles
the radius of the earth+moon = 5040miles

1x2x3x4x5x6x7=5040

8x9x10x11=7920

kinda spooky ;)

I'm too lazy to confirm whether those facts are true or not, but... interesting.
