Snowboarding/Skiing!!

My local mountain is opening 11/7. I'm so pumped. Just got my board out of storage. Put on my boots and strapped myself in and was jumping around for a while with my coat and snowpants on.

Any other ski/boarders here?

I got spoiled though, I spent the year before last in Montana, and the Rockies beat the heck out of any thing you'd find here on the east coast.

I'd like to have a go snowboarding one day :)
But I don't have that much cash at this moment in time - it looks cool.
It was my favourite hightlight of the winter olympics of 2006 in Turin...

Anyway I've decided to take up skateboarding and found this rather cool British skating community (www.sk8uk.co.uk). Cool stuff - oh and Im a member on the forum over there... :)

Used to really be into snowboarding, but after I got a boat 5 years ago and started wakeboarding, snowboarding just doesn't do it for me anymore. Anyway, we will probably go once or twice this year because the kids want to go again. Your mountain looks a lot more interesting than anything we have here in western WA.

WOOT! Update: Open this Friday, Costumes get you a free lift ticket!!

Brian - My folks have a boat and a wake board... No one ever goes on it. I've never bothered to try it because I was always spotting and saw how much people struggled with it .. and when they got up they said it wasn't that great. Maybe I'll have to visit them next summer and give it a try.

Snowboarding is to skiing as hockey is to figure skating.

Dear Skiers,

Please stop turning steep, fun powdery slopes into mogul fields.

I never understood why we've never had "board shoes" -- perhaps I'm missing some critical physics that can only be solved with skiis or a snowboard, but I would think it'd be possible to have something like discs attached to the boots instead -- circular and (maybe mostly) flat that curve up a little on the edges, like a sledding disc. I mean, don't snow shoes essentially have a similar concept, except they're designed more for walking than for speeding down a hill?

I could have guessed as much, but the conditions totally sucked. Apparently they were the first to open in the whole US. I had fun though!
Only one wide straight down trail was open, and the start and end of it sucked. There was a good middle portion of it that lasted about 10 seconds.
It was a beautiful day, and the whole scenery on the road there was beautiful too. I had THOUGHT I packed my camera I was planning on taking pictures but I forgot it ><
Sucked though, the didn't have snow made down to the bottom so we had to take the lift down, and that was a long line/wait. Funny, taking longer to get down than up. Did not think that was possible.

Can't wait to they get some decent trails open..Hopefully it's not too long of a wait.

You won't go fast at all with such a device. Also direction is a problem.

i.e. Longer the skis, faster you can go with the catch that turning is a little more difficult. Same with ice skates and snowboards. Circular designs aren't too practical for high speeds while maintaining balance.
