The maverick came to my college yesterday to hold some private conference. You would think she was already a Vice President with all the security she surrounded herself with (she held the conference in a reorganized computer lab). There were several secret service guys roaming through the room's surrounding corridors. Additionally, many of the large windows were completely covered by dark curtains (to impede snipers I'm guessing). Last but not least, I also saw the usual yellow tape to keep people from entering "restricted areas."
Anyhow, I had to go through this secured area to talk to a professor. Two guards and some lady immediately stared at me, while I sauntered towards them. I had a trench coat on that day so that probably didn't help with my discreetness (my stoic countenance probably didn't help either). A guard immediately stopped me and inquired what was my business in the area. I told him I wanted to go talk to a professor, and he ordered me to open my coat. Obviously, I obliged and I was frisked. The guard did a lousy job though; he only searched my coat. Regardless, it was probably a good idea that I didn't stick a TI-89 calculator into one of my coat's pockets. I'm not sure how the guard would have reacted if he felt that during his frisk.
I actually knew a day ahead that Palin was coming, but I wore the trench coat anyway (one of the reasons I like long coats is because they can help keep your legs warm...along with the fact that they can exhibit your physique better). Still, I certainly wasn't expecting her to set up a fortress for her conference.
