I Xbox 360d it. It was pretty cool, apart from the retarded anime main character and the 13-year-old CONFORMITY SUXX theme.

Yes because if you're asian then you're automatically a "Retarded anime main character", despite no one else in the game even bearing remote resemblance to anime characters.

And if you pay attention it wasn't so much about conformity, as it was everyone choosing the easy path.

Don't tell me why I think things! I was going off the hair and the super non-conformist x-treme tattoo. Obviously wasn't anime per se, more like one of those kind of sad western anime lookalikes that captures all the lame and none of the funny (and none of the awesome robots)

That's what "conformity" themes are all about, though! Come on, punk-rocked out grrls using kung fu on geared-up cops? **** Bu$h! (particularly amusing coming from EA :awesomelon:)

I played it on the PS3 and was quite impressed. The controls were more responsive than I thought it would be. Controls are especially important for a platformer, more so for a first person platformer because gauging your jumps can be harder in the first person view.

I think I had more fun playing this 4 minute demo than I have had combined with Far Cry 2. I think I am going to uninstall Far Cry 2 now.

This really came out of left field for me. I did not expect it to be good at all. Now all I have left to buy is this, L4D, and GoW2. And possibly NFS if the demo isnt garbage.

God damnit, too many great games and not enough $$.

But now I know what I'm getting for christmas.

I think my current count on the demo is about 35 playthroughs now. Still hasn't worn off and I am still noticing different paths to take (although I have pretty well optimized the fastest path now).

There's also a LOT of tricks and side paths you can go to in the tutorial if you're observant. It's also possible to catch up to Celeste on accident, breaking the tutorial slightly (you have to walk back to where she expects you to arrive from). But it's pretty hard and you have to try at it.

I probably wouldn't be excited if it weren't for the video at the very end. All I had seen of it so far was that stark white city scape, but it looks like there are a lot more environments.

Also, the controls are pretty damn intuitive. Most of the stuff in the tutorial I pulled off on the first try, just kinda knew what to do.

Answer: Rent games. SP-only games can easily be rented and beaten in a few days, like Dead Space and probably Mirror's Edge. So, rent those games and buy games you think you'll play more in the future.

Is the demo still Xbox Gold membership only?

I think I'll get this instead of Gears Of War 2, the demo is amazing.

I wasn't impressed by the demo at all. It all felt pretty B-rate and too arcade-ish (and not in a good way). I must be missing something.

When I played UT, Quake 3 and Jedi Outcast, I spent more time trick jumping than actually playing the game properly. What we have here is a game all about trick jumping. Therefore, potential best game ever.

Explain arcade-ish...

Frankly I find the game refreshing and new. As Detty said the closest comparison is JO/JA with the force maneuvers, and they're not even close to the wide range of stuff here.

Assassin's Creed is also similar but it took out pretty much all the skill and creativity in moving around. All you do is hold forward and he does all the work.

In Mirror's Edge, the game seems to reward those with good timing and a keen eye, but does not punish those who are not perfect runners. You can complete the entire demo (minus the one training part where they demonstrate how) without rolling from any fall, or doing any slides, or disarming any enemies. But if you do pull these off, you get a faster finish, a bit more flash, and the opportunity to take alternate routes.

That's another thing that's awesome about Mirror's Edge, the strange replay value that is created by the numerous different ways you can complete a mission. I've ran the demo probably 40 times now and I don't think I've taken the exact same path once yet.

I feel I should point out that this isn't strictly true. Now, I haven't played the demo of Mirror's Edge so maybe Assassin's Creed feels more limited in comparison, but while Altair had a simplistic freerunning control scheme, the player still had to be alert to stay on course at top speed. Chase scenes, or just when you're several stories up, required a fair amount of concentration to make sure you stayed both on the roofs and didn't run into dead ends due to high walls or the like. One wrong turn and you've got a lengthy fall to wince through :P

I guess it's like how I always viewed Sonic. Your character would take care of all the "physical challenge" in the game, you just had to have quick reactions to reach your goals.
2008-11-03, 9:56 AM #22
Yeah, in the middle of a chase I would most likely forget to press one button accidentally that would send my character plummeting. That would be a pain in the ***. It's good that your character does the work, you can concentrate on actually escaping safely.
DO NOT WANT.

It actually killed it for me because it became far too easy to get away. I don't think I ever really got caught up once.

But the thing with Mirror's Edge is the entire purpose of the game is getting away. It's in how you chose your path, keep up your momentum, and dodge fire. Plus the punishment for falling is far more severe (insta-kill) :P

been playing the demo for about the past 2 hrs, love it to bits, been pretty hyped about this game since the first time I saw the trailer and the demo doesn't disappoint,

What with just getting fable2 (which I'm also loving) and this, I think I'll be set till christmas for sure.
