Oh sweet!! It's been absolutely great weather in New England too, perfect!
Yesterday was like friggin 60 degrees out.
I want a bike...but.. long story.

I just got a 1987 Yamaha TW200.

I paid $700 for it, I wanted to pay like 550...

buuutt..

I drove about 50 miles away for it, and I kind of had to let the guy wait a few weeks before I had time.

By then he had changed the oil, cleaned the carb, done the valves, installed a new battery, and tuned it to start, run, and made it ready to ride.

There is also only a small amount of rust in the gas tank.

This thing has a lot of kick in low gears. It almost throw one of my friends on his ***. It has about 2.4 times the displacement as the S90, can't get a factory confirmation on horse power or top speed though.

It runs so great. I took it for a 45 minute ride through the country side, up and down hills, on and off road. I wanted to just find something wrong with it so I could pay less.. but it's in really good shape.

All I need to do is get a title, a tail light, replace the bearings in the rear wheel, and probably put new shoes in.


We need a motorcycle forum...

I'm waiting on purchasing a bike. Too late in the year now to get one, and next year I go to Finland. By then I should have one picked out.

So?

Theres only like five people total that post in showcase and ISB respectively. And like 3 people total that still post in the JK editing and Cog forum.

Buying a speed triple?

I've heard nothing but good things about their new bikes.

For one, they're FINALLY using REAL unit production methods, they've stopped wiring them up like they used to, and they've solved their parts scarcity problems.

The only thing you have to keep in mind is that although a triple or a twin has less moving parts (Technically more mechanically reliable) than a 4 cylinder, you have to assume that under a similar load (equivalent RPM, torque, load) that the same amount of force is being distributed across fewer parts. However because it has less parts, and more displacement, there is a lot more bullet proofing going on to make up for it. They also tend to be weigh less, but are less comfortable to ride for long periods of time due to vibration. They probably have a lot of cool things going on in their sport categories to limit vibration from actually noticeably transferring to the rider. But I know the classic series twins like the Bonneville, Thruxton, and Scrambler vibrate violent as **** because they're going for the classic triumph feel.

There still isn't a lot you can to about vibration. If you don't keep up on maintenance, a sport twin with high compression will vibrate itself apart.

These things are all apparently built VERY solid. Like I said, I've heard nothing but good things.

There is also a growing aftermarket parts market for new Triumphs.

I like the speed triple. Also the new Street Triple R with awesome suspension has me drooling. But I can't stop running afoul of the law even on my measly sv 650, so a newer/faster bike is not in the cards for me.

Glad your bike is running, hope you enjoy it.

Pardon the terrible audio (Palm Centro != good microphone), but here's the Vapor gauge setup, minus the warning lights (will have a surround with turn signal / neutral / oil pressure / fuel lights).

I had the local bike mechanic do it for me- I paid fifteen bucks (yes, $15.00 USD) and got the following:
  • Cylinder honed
  • Two bad valves pulled from head
  • Two good valves pulled from extra head
  • Aforementioned good valves installed in good head


I think I owe him a beer..or twelve.
