Massassi TF2 server, take 2

I don't really have the effort or interest to run a dedicated TF2 server, but I can set up a VM on my server that someone else can manage. Anyone up to it?

Edit: I just created a fresh Ubuntu 8.10 Server VM. It has 256 MB of RAM and an 8 GB disk image. It has a host interface that uses the host machine's gigabit ethernet to connect to RIT's 47 internets.

I'd definetly play in it often, but I don't know the first thing about running a dedicated server, so I can't help you there.

So uh, I can instead set up a Windows Server VM, which means anyone that knows how to use Steam and a few console commands could manage it. It doesn't have to be Linux. Someone could manage it through remote desktop or VNC.

Anyone? Cool Matty, MZZTer?

Come on, someone, this would be easy.

Setting up a dedicated TF2 server isn't hard. Setting one up that doesn't suck, is.

Well, CM would you be willing to just set up a basic server (with whatever admin tools) and let someone else poke around with it? My problem is that I basically don't know where to begin with TF2.

You have to download a package, and it will do a net install of the game on the server. Then you have to configure about 50 billion options.

Not really, there are tutorials. Lemme find one.

Sounds fun. What happened to a CS server also?

I think massassi should run several servers if possible, isn't the community large/popular enough? I'm not sure what the hit count is..But I would expect it to be fairly high.

MZZT is nice and setting it up for us. Setting up the TF2 server, that is.

We can certainly run multiple servers. If this thing is popular enough, I'll consider upgrading my server to something that can better support it. I have components to get a Core 2 Duo machine up, I just need the processor. My plan is to buy a quad core for my desktop and use my current CPU in the server.

I would defiantly play CS or TF2 on a massassi server but I don't know if I have time to help administrate it.. maybe, like when Im a work I could I guess.

It's up right now at 129.21.137.9

No password ATM, but if you try to connect and there is one, it's probably imjepman

Noone is really playing at the moment either. Perhaps after the 9-5 period ends.
