Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

One of my christmas gifts was the wonderful Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, for Gamecube (as well as all other recent systems, I own X-box as well). I must say, this game was FABULOUS. BUY OR RENT IT NOW. This is the closest thing to being as good as Ocarina of Time that you'll see in awhile.

*spoilers*
I beat it in 3 days, over about 10 hours or so, but this is the first game that I, in a long time, have REALLY wanted more of. I was actually disappointed when it was over, that usually NEVER happens when I finish agame. The gameplay consists of lots of acrobatic puzzles, which are almost obviously transitions from the 2D game. I never thought that the repetition of gameplay would want me to keep playing it so much...it was incredible. There are few powerups, save some 'sand' things that you collect to increase your 'time altering' abilities, and you slowly get better swords as the game progresses. However, the game is still COMPLETELY addictive. I found only one sequence of the game to be difficult to the point of anger, which, in comparison to the rest of the game, is just a faded memory. Not to say the puzzles aren't difficult, just spend a little time and thought into your efforts and you'll pick up the logic in them. The acrobatics are extremely fun, and in between puzzles/acrobatic sequences are mixed fights with sand zombies. As you progress, the main character narrates his thoughts, as the game is told as his 'story', without any change in gameplay, no pause of a cutscene, or close-up on his face. In fact when you meet another character in the game who you fight along side with, you both talk without any gameplay change. The conversations between solving puzzles together and fighting zombies progressivly change their relationship...and all of this goes in while you're playing, no, as I said before, gameplay changes (IE cutscenes). I cannot express how wonderful this game is without spoiling more, I'm feeling flu-ey right now and I probably could have been more persuasive, but, as I said before, PLAY THIS GAME!

My 2 cents

I'm going to go out and do stuff, like besides work. Call up ben, hang out. Maybe see the last samurai, go skydiving, whatever.
Get back into the gym...
I want to do stuff that prevents me from playin video games so I can only play them a few hours a day, basically.

I haven't played it that much yet, but it's been fun as hell so far. If you have any of the consoles, go get this game . . . NOW!

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side

I loved Prince of Persia 3D's combat system - is it just me, or did they take that out? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Cool game, but way too short.

I say rent it when you have a spare day or two to play it thoroughly.

I can agree this is a great game! Here's a mini review.

Graphics: The levels are amazingly designed. There is nothing repetitive about it, each level is clevery designed so you have to think "how do I get from point x to point y". The animations are silky smooth too, I love running along the walls You should see the realistic movement of the curtains when you run into it.

Sound
There is hardly any music in the game, but when there is, you usually hear a upbeat Persian tune that fits combat perfectly.
Sound basically consist of ambience. Water droplets, clinging of swords, etc. The voice acting is pretty good in my opinion. I like how the Prince flouts Farah from time to time.

Gameplay
Everything Veeger said, but I want to add alittle bit more. The power to control time. I thought it was cool that if you missed a jump, you could rewind the game so you could retry the jump. You can also slow, hasten, and freeze time to make fighting easier. My only two quirks is that the camera can be a nuisance sometimes (not that much fortunately) and that the fighting can get kind of repetitive.

Replay value
So far I'm about 71% of the game I'm about 5 hours through so I'm guessing the game will take from 7-10 hours for most. However, if you know the secret, you can unlock The Original Prince of Persia. Keep in mind it's different for all console versions. For the PS2, I have to break this wall right after acquiring the new sword. Unfortunately I missed it, so now I have to play it again after I complete the game. X-Box owners can also unlock Prince of Persia 2.

Wonderful game overall.

Yes, and US GameCube owners have a similarly special treat for unlocking the original! First you must find the hidden local video game store, purchase the secret Prince of Persia GBA version, complete it, go back to the secret video game store, purchase a link cable, and as long as you've already beat the GC game, you can UNLOCK THE ORIGINAL!!!!
