Far Cry 2 and the Zebras

Anyone else finding that the Zebra AI seems to consist of two commands? Run away from player and run in front of vehicle. I have hit 4 zebras, one of which was with a jeep I had bailed out of and sent rolling down a hill. Another was out in the desert. Zebra's eat sand now?

Ah well, it was funny at first but now I can't seem to do anything without plowing through the zebra army.

Screw that.

I was playing Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader on the Gamecube yesterday, and I became curious as to what the wingmen fighters do after you send them off to go after Ties or Guns. Turns out, they don't do jack. Send them after Ties and they just fly around, occasionally shooting one or two shots (that miss) at an enemy. Send them after guns and they go headfirst in the line of fire of a enemy turbolaser just to shoot one shot.

I always liked the game, but it never really felt like you were part of a war. It's always you vs. world.

Only thing I've ever hit was a wildebeast, and I didn't see it coming, it darted into my peripheral and then BAM... I jumped.

There's a youtube video somewhere that showcases the stupidity of the animals in FC2, doing just what you describe.

Wow, thats about as bad as it gets. I learned the other day that most of the animal models do not even have correct collision/damage boxes. You can't shoot most of them in the head. At least I couldn't with the pistol, point blank.

So, they act just like real animals then?

I lol'ed.

Yep, you can't shoot pretty much any animal in the head.

I routinely kill all the animals I come across for no reason and will go out of my way to park on top of a gnu corpse instead of on the road.

Also I don't think the hitbox problem is exclusive to animals as I've definitely shot thru enemy heads at point blank w/ the same effect =_=

I haven't had a problem with the headshots on people. I have however sniped peoples feet before only to watch them not even blink.

Why is it taking you so long to see the many things that suck about this game?
2008-11-12, 7:23 PM #11
People can be shot in the head. Animals can't.

The lack of attention in this game astounds me. There were some trees, pretty much floating in the air next to a cliff. How can they miss this stuff? (Trees make sense but seriously, play your game before you start selling it.)

Not taking that long, I already posted at Crymod how annoyed I was with this game.

I actually love this game and seemed to have overlooked its shortcomings, given my bias towards 90s-era games were glitches galore could be found everywhere.

I encountered the "can't shoot guy in the head" problem again today, though. It was irritating. I think it usually happens when you wound somebody but they're not dead yet and you have to finish them off. I emptied an entire clip point-blank at a guy lying on the ground while he emptied his clip as me and the result was me having to run away and heal myself because he had shot me so many times while he was mysteriously unharmed despite the number of bullet holes on the ground under his head. I ended up just stabbing him with a machete.

There was another guy who was wounded and who had gotten to his knees and I tried to shoot him in the back of the head, execution style, but it went through him and he turned around and was about to shoot me when I, anticipating it after the last ordeal, drew my machete and hacked him.

I love it when you kill a turret guy just as he's getting on the turret, and he just stands there for the rest of the game, and you can't hurt him, and he doesn't react to you.

It's messed up.

For some reason that reminded me of the MotS level "Castle, Hill, and Forest".

You guys are nuts. I shoot animals in the head with great success, and I've never "shot an enemy in the head" and not seen a satisfying blood spray... the only hitbox problem I've encountered is trying to shoot just around the edge of a tree trunk and having it hit invisible bark :tinfoil:

Also I'm 45 hours into the game, about 75% complete I believe.

Has anybody tried the mortar noclip glitch? (If you've patched to 1.01 you can't do it anymore)

It's freakin awesome.

I've noclipped into Marina's Bar and emptied whole clips of the autoshotgun into my buddies' faces. It looks like their faces are being torn off, but alas, when the blood splatter subsides, THEY'RE PERFECTLY FINE (you can't kill them, sadly, in the Bar :()

I also tried to noclip into one of the factions's headquarters and assassinate those SOBs but they don't show up unless you go in through the front door :(

You can even kill the Jackal with the glitch (warning big spoilers .. I'm at 65% through the game and I sort of had the ending spoiled to me with this clip. Skip to 1:30 if you want to see the actual killing)

Guys, they're just trying to make the game realistic:

Hah, that guy's going green. Use animal powered cars!

I think the game is great, but they probably spent too much time on the land and not enough time fixing small issues.

Darkjedibob, I would just like to inform you that police will be arriving at your house soon to arrest you for attempted murder. I nearly choked on my breakfast.

I wonder if you really can spoil something so horrible.

You can't really spoil a game that has like almost zero narrative.
