I hate them, but in NYS they are a necessary evil. Reguardless of hands free laws, driving a standard and trying to talk on a cellphone is just automatic fail.

I've gone through two motorolas that were just pieces of garbage, sounded horrible, quality was ***, etc. I'm looking at a Blueant Z9i headset currently. The reviews seem to be positive, but a few rotten egg reviews have got me wondering if I want to spend $50 on it. Anyone have any hands on experience with this model? I'm open to suggestion if there is something better that is around the $50 and under pricerange, although I'm really not inclined to jump on the jawbone wagon. Also, the less lobot looking the better.

You know what eliminates those pesky wireless transmission issues? A ****ING WIRE. Bluetooth headsets are pretentious, especially when worn in situations where they aren't a requirement (at the grocery store, in a store, at a restaurant, in someone's home).

Just use a ****ing wired headset - your head will never be more than two feet from your phone while you're using it, and it's not restrictive. The only "reason" not to is that it isn't "cool" to other obnoxious teenagers.

Sadly about 90% of bluetooth headsets suck. I haven't tried enough to say which are good, but remember, bluetooth isn't the law. Handsfree is the law. You may want to look into a wired headset. They're not as cool, but at $15 to $20, compared to $50 to $150, they don't have to be, (and they work much better, usally).
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

I've never used a headset, my phone came with a wired one though. I just pull over if I -really- need to call someone.

While I just posted about the benefits of wired over wireless, I must take a brief moment to rebutt Steven and his unenlightened attitude.

No they aren't. You're pretentious for thinking and saying they are just because you personally don't like them.

the majority of bluetooth users are adult men in their late 20's to early 30's. Where do "obnoxious teenagers" come into play here?

Sarn, take a chill pill, jesus dude..

Anyway, I tried a wired set and everyone complained that it sounded the same as a crappy bluetooth on thier end. I'm fine with a wired headset either way, so any sugestions on some decent non "over-the-head" or "rediculously-long-boom" wire headsets?

The one I use is a Bodyglove Flex. It has a push button like most bluetooth headsets. I like it because when I play music on my phone, it goes into the headset, which is great when riding a motorcycle. There is no audible difference in quality. Sounds just as good as if I had the phone to my ear. You can find it for $15-$20 almost anywhere.

Get an in-car system fitted if it's that important. They sound much better on the receiving end.

I've got a Plantronics set, and sound quality on both ends is pretty good.

+1 for getting a wired headset or in-car system

i can think of situations where a bluetooth headset could be useful but if you're only using it in a car you don't necessarily need bluetooth when a wired headset or in-car system do the job better for less and won't drain your battery as fast

i only use my headset with my PS3 and it's a jabra bt135 which was free with my phone

they look pretty lame. i could see if you're constantly on the phone where it would be an advantage to have one (i'm talking about all the people who go out shopping and wear them in the store) otherwise it just seems pretty stupid. it doesn't look THAT cool, imo.

my phone is strange. It only lets me hear audio from the person i'm talking to IF i have the headset on.

its great when you get a call and you have to scramble for the earpiece, turn it on, connect it to the phone, and answer the call.

note - this only happens out here at school, and its not an issue of me holding the phone on the phone's antenna area

In car system wouldn't work due to cabin noise, mainly my exhaust setup. Although I always liked the idea.

I use the wired headset that came with my phone. I wear it all day with the wires under my shirt. But I mostly use my phone as a music player.

I've used a couple but haven't found one that has good sound quality and is comfortable to wear with glasses.

Why would I (a late 20's adult btw) go and buy a wired headset when I already have a wireless one??
Why should I waste money just because you are mysteriously offended by bluetooth?

I wasn't talking to you, a dunce, as evidenced by the fact that you didn't start the thread asking about advice on headsets, and the fact that you haven't posted on this thread until just recently. I don't care what you do. Simpleton.

I got one as a gift but haven't really used it yet. It would definitely have come in handy during Chicago winters to keep my hand from freezing while holding up my phone, but now that I'm in Austin and we're hitting 80 degrees in the middle of November, that doesn't really seem like such an important consideration.

These are supposedly the best Bluetooth headsets. Background noise cancellation is pretty important to say the least if you're looking for a quality one. The BlueAnt V1 can be voice commanded.

The EtyBLU probably blows most headsets out of the water in terms of sound quality. Unfortunately its design limits it from casual use.

More like 97 cobra, sorry bub, you fail. =D

As far as the other posts, I believe the Z9i is better then the V1, but I could be mistaken. Also I'd agree with you emon, etymotic products usually are the best of the best, but are too expensive to even consider.
