Costs less than a copy of JK and it's a way better game with more replay value.

It's even easier to mod.
2008-11-19, 4:24 PM #7
also, its not the source version

You're right, it's better than the source version.

I heard the source version is sorta buggy. Like the scripting is a little jacked in places because it's just a straight copy pasta job.
2008-11-19, 5:16 PM #12
I'm pretty sure you won't miss out on anything in the Source version. Both are essentially identical.

I'm not sure if the Source version accepts mod. Because the original very well did.

I...have. I think, to date, I've played through the game on hard some 200 times. :(
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Save games in HL:Source never worked for me IIRC.

If they haven't played it by this point, they should just wait until Black Mesa comes out.

What's preventing you from playing Half Life? It's dirt cheap, and I don't think you are too busy to play.

I condone this message. I've been a faithful fan of black mesa for a while now, and it's really starting to shape up. :neckbeard:
DO NOT WANT.

Just curious.

When playing Half-Life for the first times, did anyone else constantly auto-save and reload saves so that friendly NPCs wouldn't be killed off? I remember playing HL with a group of 4 Barney guards and scientists.

I'd buy it if I didn't already own it.

And I usually killed the friendlies myself.

Wow, just looked at the nov 19 media update at Black Mesa: Source. It's looking pretty incredible.

Not have the desire and feeling that HL2 was a waste of money?
nope.

I got it at one point for free, by virtue of having the Counter-Strike PC disk. Never did finish it, though I'm not sure exactly why I stopped playing.

Crap timing. Too many good games coming out at the moment for anyone making time for Half-Life.

Fortunately, I've played through it a dozen or so times anyway.

I did. I spent more time doing this than actually trying to beat the game :P

Thanks for the heads up. I never played the game, but I always wanted to try it out.
2008-11-20, 3:53 PM #33
I killed friendlies for ammo. And because the scientists piss me off.
2008-11-20, 4:14 PM #34
Yea, the 17 bullets you got from Barney had more killing power than his unlimited ammo arse.
2008-11-20, 4:32 PM #35
The Barney NPCs, at best, could take down a headcrab or vortigaunt. They were essentially fodder for more powerful enemies.

Barney was a useful distraction. While the enemies killed him, you could sneak around them.

I bought Half-Life back when HL2 was coming out (I got the Valve Complete Pack, which was $70 back then, and included CSS and the HL2 pre-order). Played it and Op4. "Acquired" and played Blue Shift (which back then wasn't on Steam... it only got on Steam recently and IIRC I got it for free for owning HL).

I was playing TF2 with a bunch of the devs (it was play TF2 with the BMS devs day or something, I joined a server listed in a Black Mesa Steam group event) and they were saying Black Mesa is still a ways off, lots of work left to do. :(

Big TCs like that are pretty weird. Like, working on Black Mesa would have to be your only hobby for years on end.
