I hate XBOX LIVE

I hate XBOX LIVE. I had a free trial for 30 days when I first got the xbox. At that time it didn't work for days, I couldn't connect, when I finally did, it would just boot me off immediately. I got pissed off but everyone told me it was just a fluke because of the holidays and that normally everything works perfectly.

I recently heard about the netflix streaming to xbox thing and I figured I would be able to use my Roku on another tv, so I paid for the stupid 1 year subscription thinking they had all the problems worked out by now.

Same damn thing. It lets me stay logged in for a little while (like 2-3 minutes) then it boots me out and tells me to "test connection" or "recover profile" whatever the hell that means. The test connection is always successful, I don't get wtf is wrong with this picture.

I guess my 30 day trial was indeed representative of the quality of their service and I just got ripped off another 50 bucks or so. *sigh*

That's probably because X-Box LIVE was hit by about 3x the normal traffic the past day or so because NXE just came out. It should be working fine now, and if it doesn't it's probably your network.

My network is ultra-awesome. Here's an interesting tidbit. A friend of my son came over and he put his hard drive on my xbox and he used his xbox live account w/out any problems for a few days while he was staying here. I don't understand how it could be a connectivity issue given that information. Plus of course all the tests succeed.

Then I'd chock it up to the massive increase in players on X-Box LIVE the past couple days. If it isn't working still, call up support then and complain.

That's interesting. I've never had a problem connecting except for Monday when somehow my copy of Left 4 Dead came early and it wouldn't let me on Live until midnight.

If it's only your GamerTag that isn't working I'd give Microsoft a call. I've had to call them a couple times and they've been pretty helpful.

Sounds like the situation is unique to you - I've been using Xbox LIVE since it first came out (on Xbox original) and have never had problems (other than during high-traffic times, but they always let us know in advance). I quite like their service - it's excellent.

Also, to crack down on piracy, Live won't let you play any Xbox games before their release date.

I've had it for a while and haven't had any problems.

i haven't had any real problems with live until the NXE update hit and it's entirely been issues with getting things on the marketplace to load

even during the time when everyone else was having holiday related issues i wasn't experiencing a single problem

so yeah give it a day or 2 so everyone can get their NXE update

I saw some people playing CoD:WaW before its official release date

The logging in/logging out thing seems to have subsided this evening, I was able to download some demos and browse the store. But now it won't accept my code from Gears of War 2 for a 48-hour free trial, I'm guessing it's doing to dis me for the map pack, too. Argh. And I'm afraid to type in my code from my xbox live year long card thing because I can't remember my password (which I set up last Christmas and haven't used since) and their "email password" thing doesn't work and apparently the people on the xbox tech support line can do nothing other than point me to the aforementioned-broken web site. *sigh* I may have to sign up for a new xbox live account and lose my gamername or whatever it is and also use a different email address. So fakking annoying.

You wight want to start by just recovering your profile like it recommends, it's posible the copy of the profile you have on there is corrupt. Otherwise support is probably a good call. But a couple of other thing's Ive heard of, doubt they will help, but you never know:

I your using Verizon FIOS internet, they usually give out a particular router that is known to cause Xbox Live problems. I think it's the "Actiontek" router, but I've heard of several people who had Live problems until they set a Static IP route up, routed all traffic to a SECOND router, or just replaced the router.

Another really awful experience I have heard of is people who buy Xbox 360's used will often find that the Xbox itself has been banned from Live because the previous owner tried to pirate games or MOD it. There is no way to tell if an Xbox has been banned from live untill you try to connect or call MS with the serial number, and seeing as MS just banned a BUNCH of Xbox's less than two weeks ago, I would expect that the second hand market is flooded with Banned Xboxen, and last I heard allot of places like Gamestop don't bother checking used console before re-selling them.

Microsoft will un-ban it if you can prove you just bought it.

I always assumed those free 48 hour cards were for people who didn't already have a Live account. If you're trying to sign up for a free account with an email that's already registered to an active account, that might be your problem.

There was a multiplayer demo before the release.

technically everyone with a 360, broadband, and their 360 connected to the intarweb has a live account... it's just that there are 2 types of account silver and gold

and the free [insert period of time here] cards work for any silver account to upgrade it to gold for that period of time... if someone had a constant supply of these cards they could keep a live gold account going 48hours at a time (or 1 month at a time) until the codes expire (and there is some debate on if they ever expire)

It wasn't the multi-player demo, because that's what I was playing. It didn't say (demo) after it

We don't. Good to know.

Do you even use Xbox Live? No? Shut up.

I've had no problems, but there definitely were some router compatibility issues last I checked. You might wanna check on that, see if your ISP does any weird packet shaping, or if they screw with your TCP/UDP capabilities on any certain port number.

Personally, I think the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live is the most successful product made by Microsoft in a while.
