[Tech] Youtube causing Firefox crashes
2008-11-26, 3:00 PM #1
Recently, opening Youtube videos has caused Firefox to hang/freeze for a moment and/or crash UNLESS I let the video load for a few moments (e.g. if someone sent me a rickroll and I tried to close it before the video showed, FF would hang/crash). It's sort of irritating because sometimes I'll just want to watch a few seconds of video and then click to something else if I'm searching for a particular vid and it'll break.

It also occasionally does this if I open a Youtube video and then switch to another tab -- or it'll freeze before I try to switch and not let me click on anything at all.

Has anyone else experienced this and/or know of a solution?

It happens on my Vista box but not my XP laptop, both with Firefox 3.0.0 and 3.0.4, regardless of extensiosn enabled or not.

I'm getting this too. I don't know what's causing it.

I had something similar happen, I don't remember how I got it fixed but I think it's got something to do with a plugin, like flash or something. I can't remember. But installing the lastest plugin fixed it....

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem. It was real bad a few days ago!

Are you running the latest version of the flash plugin?
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

I had a problem getting Flash to work consistently but it wasn't causing many of the issues listed in this thread. I assumed that the problem was resolved in one of the previous updates because it just went away.
? :)

Youtube runs on Flash, so yeah, updating to the latest Flash might help. As might using Firefox 3.1b1.

yeah, flash. That might have been the problem.
