I know some Massassians played Star Wars Galaxies in the past. Now I admit it sucked, but the scenery and such was really cool for that game. Then, SOE and LucasArts decided to totally dumb it down and make it unplayable.

Well, a huge community that didn't like the NGE decided to backwards-engineer SWG to it's previous, semi-nonsucky state. And after a few years, they've made lots of progress. They currently have over 5 lead devs, 10-15 others or so, and a profession leader for each profession to talk between the huge community that test for bugs and the devs.

Anyways, the first weekend of December, SWGEmu.com is going to host a stress test that plans to have a huge amount of people online at once, and break previous stress test records. You're more than welcome to join in if interested. Almost everything is ready for release, except for various missions and spawning points for NPC's.

THE DATE/TIME OF THE STRESS TEST IS SATURDAY DECEMBER 6th, 2008 @ 6PM Eastern Standard Time, 5PM CST, 3PM PST.

To join, you need to install SWG. Once you have it installed, download and install this to patch up and play on the Core3 server. There will be punch. Or at least, some kind of fun quest or event to do.

Here is A guide for new and returning players. You don't have to read this, but I thought I'd throw it in here.

You do not need to have played SWG before. This is for new and returning players. However, you still need to find a way to install SWG, and there are methods.

Oh, and this is completely 100% legal.

I picked up my discs from home when I first heard about the project.

Kind of lacking in hard drive space, though.

Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Its not 100% legal because its ripping off and changing something someone build and owns.

Dont get me wrong I'd love to play it, but its not 100% legal....

It's against the EULA, but that doesn't make it illegal.

Is the SWGEmu illegal?
No. That applies everywhere, in and outside the US. The SWGEmu team built the server from ground up, so what exactly can SOE sue for? Yes it is against the SWG EULA to reverse engineer any communications between it and the server, but that is not a legal implication. All they can do is ban our accounts from their services.

Technically the strength of an EULA in court has yet to be tested enough times to determine the legality of the contract you enter into. Historically the courts have sided with the publisher and in favor of the EULA as a legally binding document.

All I'm saying is, I'm fairly certain both SOE and LucasArts knows about this project, and neither companies have sued anyone for the SWGemu project. This is a pretty big project, and I'm sure they wouldn't be spending years on it without first making sure it's completely legal.

But is it any more interesting than all the other boring MMOs?

Yeah. Saying stuff "it's technically not illegal" and "they haven't said no, so that's tacit approval" is pretty stupid nerd lawyer crap.

Best of luck, though.

I'll leave that up to you to decide. Personally, I say "Not really, but better than WoW".

I have a 14 day free trial of Galaxies that came with another game. Can you install patches on the trial version of the game?
2008-11-29, 3:14 PM #14
Yes, I believe so. I'm not 100% positive, but usually the illegal route to go with getting SWG installed is to install the free trial and install the patches over it. This makes it illegal because SWG has no way of limiting the amount of time you can play the game since you're using another server.

SWGemu does not endorse this method at all, but I believe one can easily install the trial and patches over it, and should work fine.

Worrying about it's legality when no one cares is also stupid lawyer nerd crap.
