Okay basically I'm surrounded by stuff I want to sell and I want to make some cash, and eBay sounds great (UK) but the thing is I haven't got the foggiest how it all works, what it's all about, how you sign up (what it involves) all this PayPal and them taking money and you sending stuff... oh it's so much. Any help? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I believe you have to be 18 or over to register for ebay. (Although I don't think paypal has such an age limit, though, for some reason.)

Well age doesn't matter as I can sign up under one of my parents (don't worry I will consult them!) but presumably that also means I need to use one of their credit cards if buying or receiving money?

Actually you don't have to be 18, used to you had to have a Credit Card to verify you were but that changed long ago. Now you only need a CC for special stuff, I think ebay motors would be included in that.

Basically all you really need is an email address that isn't blatantly free, ie: yahoo. Though some people have been able to use them.

You dont have to have a credit card or a PayPal account to sell / buy on eBay. Just be aware it will limit you a little, as some people use exclusively PayPal for their transactions. Most people will send / recieve money orders, cheques, or direct deposit.

Do an eBay search for the items you're looking at selling to get an idea of the market. Design your auction on the most popular features of similar auctions. Dont forget to be very specific about postage and payment details in your auction, if the items are the same people will decide which to buy based on those.

Okay so I'm 16, I've got a Visa Electron Debit, can I sign up?

If so how does PayPal work and what's all this business of owing them money and stuff for every sale you make?

PayPal is basically an online bank. They charge nothing for transfer. (Although, this may be untrue for the receiving party. I've never had to pay paypal for any of my purchas' though)

You pay a small percentage to PayPal (and eBay, for that matter) if you're the seller. It all goes through automatically onto your credit card, and really is worth it for the convenience.

Selling on ebay isn't a huge deal. I sold some stuff just this last week for the first time and it was pretty easy.

Go to the ebay site, abd click on the "Sell" tab. There are tutorials that lay it all out for you.

Personally, Paypal, makes selling really easy because you can pay your listing fees straight from you Paypal account. And you don't have to deal with cash or checks or anything like that.

I'm 16 with a Visa Electron Debit card, and paypal works fine with it.
