Recommend my Dad some PS2 games!

'Sup dawgs.

My mum's badgering me about dad's Christmas present, and how she wants to pick him up a couple of PS2 games, or whatever. But frankly, I don't really have any idea.

Thing is, he liked Gran Turismo 4 when I got it last year, and he likes strategy games. Not sure on his stance on action or RPGs, but as a general rule I think he's all "when can I shoot him" as opposed to paying attention to the story. He does also kind of like shooters, but judging by the trouble he had with Doom 3...

I know it's not much, but I'm out of ideas.

GTA: San Andreas.
Even my mother likes GTA (though she is very careful not to run over people)

I found this post hilarious for some reason.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

God of War and God of War II are an absolute necessity.

I would also recommend some of the Ratchet and Clank games, as well as the Metal Gear Solid series (although that's big on story, but it's a damn good story).

Shadow of the Colossus is also a very very good one. But you NEED God of War, nuff said

If he likes shooting and button mashing I recomend:

Socom series
Time Crisis 3
Time Splitters 2
Oni
Unreal Tournament

Anything in that general ballpark. I know my dad is a UT fiend on the pc.

The first 2 Timesplitters.

The third has too much awful writing.
nope.

What I meant was that it should only be played on PC, playing UT on a console is destroying its grace.
DO NOT WANT.

Ohhhhhhh. I see.

I totally agree. I try to play all FPS on the pc if possible.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

Looking kind of thin on the ground for racing games. And more arcadey games in general, I suppose. It took the old man long enough to work out you could look up and down in Doom 3, for instance, and I'm kind of wary to give suggestions of games that require a lot of... well, skill as a gamer.

Perhaps some of the Jak and Daxter series, or Ratchet and Clank. They're always fun, at least the first few runs through.

Timesplitters 2 is the only PS2 game I have ever played (my college roommate had a PS2 and we'd play co-op sometimes). It was fun.

I do however have fond memories of some PS1 titles back when I owned a PlayStation (still do, just don't really play them anymore) if those count.

If we're talking PS1 games too, make sure you get FFVII :P

To be honest I've got a few of these games myself.

At the moment, I'm thinking maybe Resident Evil 4, because he at least has some experience with RE2, even if it was the abysmal PC port. Probably some form of Burnout, too, because they're pretty fun, smashy arcadey racing fun. I can always get him to try Timesplitters 2, too, just to see how he handles it. And I think he might enjoy Metal Gear Solid 3, which I picked up for myself a while ago. It's less shooty and more stealthy, but he might be alright.

I don't really know about God of War, though. Doesn't seem like his thing, really.

And I really can't see him playing FF7. ¬¬
