When you purchase songs through Itunes, can you then burn those songs to CD? Also, are there any better legal song purchasing services that will allow me to burn the songs that I download?

Yes, you can with iTunes. Amazon lets you buy non-DRM mp3s.

Amazon. Nothing compares for buying digital music.

Although I've noticed that of the few drm-free tracks I've gotten from Zune, they're all 256-320kbps which is nice. Might be useful if you have some extra points on XBox Live. But otherwise, definitely Amazon.

Amazon rocks. It's finally come to the UK.

The amazon downloader will also automatically copy your downloads to your itunes library, which makes it very convenient

Really? That COULD mean that it finally works here in Finland too...

Edit: well it doesn't, available for UK customers only. :(
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

The only problem I have with Amazon is that it lacks the brilliance that is the iTunes Music Store, design wise. i wish Amazon would actually create a program ala iTunes for their mp3s. But yeah, that's really a minor nitpick, Amazon is the place to go now these days...

iTunes has brilliance? I hate their interface.

Once you purchase a song from Amazon, can you download it unlimited times? Like, if I were to reformat my hard drive for whatever reason, could I just log back into Amazon and download the song again?

Apparently not.

Can I download another copy of my MP3 files after the initial purchase?
Your Amazon MP3 Music purchases can only be downloaded once. After you have successfully downloaded the file to your computer at the time of purchase, we recommend that you create a backup copy.

We are currently unable to replace any purchased files that you delete or lose due to a system or disk error. If you encounter a problem with an MP3 file immediately after purchase, please click the Customer Service button in the Contact Us box in the right-hand column of this page so we can determine how to help you.

I guess it makes sense. Otherwise, someone can just buy music and then let someone else log into their account to get their own copy. I guess just back them up on DVD or something.

It makes sense for DRM free music, yeah. Although Zune lets you redownload everything, bought or zune-pass'ed, in one click :D
2008-12-14, 11:10 AM #16
Does Itunes let you redownload music you've already purchased?
2008-12-14, 11:21 AM #17
If in the event you lose your library they will allow a one-time redownload of your music.

When I buy from iTunes I burn to a CD-RW and rip back to MP3 at VBR0. Sounds just as good, and no restrictions.
