OK I'm stuck in NP and could use some tips.

I'm at the part where you have to fend off combine soldiers for the second time, with 4 entrances and 3 turrets. The turrets prove as useless as **** on a bull and get kicked over within the first 30 seconds, then its pretty much just trying to stay alive. I've tried everything from tactics, to jumping, to hiding in the turret locker and pegging anyone who comes in front of me, and I still end up dying by the time Alyx says "We must have hit the motherlode".

Needless to say I'm beginning to get a little frustrated, so any help here would be awesome.

i just grab all the turrets, go hide in a cell, setup turrets in cell towards door, shoot things

I'm assuming this is in the room with the portal thingy?

I just set up 1 turret at 3 of the 4 entrances and covered the other one on my own. If a turret fell, I'd pick it back up and re-place it.

Make sure you're setting up the turrets toward the center, away from the entrances... it gives 'em more time to pick off soldiers before they're knocked over/'naded. This way, you'll have time to pick up the fallen ones, usually, before the next one gets knocked over.

It sounds like you haven't discovered that you can pick friendly turrets back up and set them up again after they've been knocked over. I usually keep the turrets close to that small side hallway that connects the two main hallways, that way I can easily reach them to set them back up when they're knocked down. I also stay in that hallway so I can duck back behind cover while I'm reloading.

This is what I do. Make sure to have the grav gun handy for when they throw nades inside!

I dragged a turret from the previous encounter so I had 4 turrets instead of 3. I hid inside the turret locker with 2 turrets facing each door into that little hallway and sat there the whole time. They never even lobbed a grenade inside. Pretty sure I got lucky on that part though.
Life is beautiful.

I completely blocked two of the doors with stacked boxes. It was a relatively easy time defending the rest with turrets.

Well I do pick the turrets back up, but I become swiss cheese in the process. The problem is no matter where I place them, someone knocks them down almost instantly.

I'll have to keep trying at it I guess. I'll try some of the other suggestions and see if that works.

move the turrets back from the door, give them some distance to come to them

I became so emotionally attached to the turrets that, at the Combine teleportation room, I had accumulated 7 of those things. Basically, not one Combine stepped foot in the room. I just painstaking took each of the previous ones over to the next rooms.

Anybody got a good effective strategy to fend off the Striders from ****ing up White Forest? Actually it's not the striders it's the hunters that are screwing me over.

Run them the **** over with your car. You have to remember that shooting them is a time-consuming and wasteful task. You could spend entire magazines over and over trying to gun Hunters down but they die pretty easily when you use your Grav Gun.

I have to say the allies in the final battle in White Forest have to be the most useless people ever.

Hit the first one with your car and use your weapons on the others. AR3 alt-fire, obviously, but the rocket launcher works just as well. The large logs lying around the place work well too.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Old Question: Set a crate or two in front of each turret. I've also heard putting your turrets in the cells works too.

Or you can toss the turrets up onto that ledge. Then stack some boxes and climb up there. Much easier

I agree. Grab a RPG and start firing at striders and hunters! Don't make me do all the ****ing work!
