So I tried playing the Left4Dead demo a while ago, and I encountered this problem.
I just bought TF2 .. and the same thing. But it's really odd, the first game I joined was fine. Then the next it was all black. The next, ok for about 2 seconds and then it went black. ???

Radeon Mobility 9600 is my video card...this is really odd.
Anyone have ANY idea WTF is going on?

his brightness setting is good... look at his HUD

the 2D overlay is showing up but the 3D is all black... could be a driver problem update your drivers... if it doesn't work try different video options turn everything down/off then if it works go through each setting one at a time to find out where your problem is

Install the standard catalyst drivers with ATI Driver Mod.

I notice that most open gl applications are very unstable on my laptop which has a radeon graphics chipset.

I hate radeon...
Nothing to see here, move along.

even though they changed the name its still the first google result for ati driver mod http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php
