Yeh... I open it and it starts asking me to set TabBrowser preferences... then I notice all my bookmarks have been nuked too - that and all those messages I've set to 'don't display again' are coming back up - what the hell's happened?

[EDIT]: It's like I've reset everything to default - bizzarely though my themes and plugins and stuff are still there and active. I can't find my Bookmarks anywhere and I'm pretty peeved because I had a lot of them.

Sounds like...maybe a virus or worm? You should run AVG, or download it if you don't have it.

You're going to laugh but in the last few minutes my system has steadily got worse in state - it's really slowing down to a halt. I don't like this at all.

Ok so I got AVG (thanks for that) but the trouble is it's scanning all of about 1/4 of the files on my C:, even when I tell it to scan the whole thing - ummm whuh?!

Run Spybot and Adaware too.

Perhaps the virus allready attacked your AVG.
Get Knoppix and scan your drive from that with f-prot.

Well I've AVG'd, Adaware'd and Spybotted and it found some stuff - anything else?

Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

Thankfully I think that is the extent of it as I've experienced no other damage or effects - I take it there's no way to restore my profile? *sigh*

look in documents & settings\user name\application data\firefox\profiles

If your profile still exists, there's a html file in there called bookmarks, I generally back mine up regularly
