These pictures were all taken from the firetower on Snowy Mountain in the south-central Adirondack Park. I visited the tower while on patrol as a Forest Ranger. The tower hasn't actually been used for fire-detection/protection in over 20 years, but has been restored and is open to the public as a historical and cultural artifact. To reach the tower, one must hike 4 miles and climb approximately 2000 feet to the summit of snowy mountain- and yet, this is considered to be quite close to civilization compared to most of the area that I worked in.
