So, I finally decided to try Opera out...
2009-01-10, 1:21 AM #1
For some unknown reason, everytime I try to download something in fire fox, it freezes. I looked it up in google, and followed the directions on how to fix the issue, and it doesn't work. It only works if I set all downloads to desktop and can only download one file at a time. If I try to download more, it freezes.

I don't like IE, so I decided to try Opera out.

I must say, its fast, its nice, awesome. Most importantly, it works. I have no idea why fire fox is doing what its doing, never had this problem before.

Any thoughts?
Nothing to see here, move along.

I like Opera. It is fast, but not quite as quick as Safari. It was my browser of choice before I moved to OSX.

I tried Oprah once: She was fast.

Yea, I've been using Chrome since it came out. Love it.
FF takes like 15 seconds to start up for some odd reason, I do miss my extensions, but it starts up faster and loads pages faster.

Chrome bugs me with its lack of middle click+drag to scroll.
nope.

I've always found firefox to be a little extreme for something that's supposed to be a browser. When you follow the tune up tips, it takes up insane processing power (in my experience).

Opera has always worked great for what I want.

I used to use opera and I loved it. I don't actually remember why I switched to firefox though of course I like it now too

I use Opera as a secondary browser to watch videos and stuff because I run a high-resolution display with DPI scaling ramped up and firefox ****s up sometimes when fullscreening (and Opera doesn't)

Chrome would be awesome except for some reason the minimize, maximize, and close [x] buttons DON'T WORK which is really annoying. It works perfectly on my laptop. Just not on my HTPC. wtf.

That's very strange. Although I must say, you mentioning that made me realize I almost never use those buttons. (windows-d, I never use _) Usually alt-f4 out of things as well.

I love opera. Usually I can click the firefox shortcut, then click the opera shortcut, then load a webpage or two in opera before firefox starts.
I still like ff but the speed really makes a difference. Also speed dial rocks.

Chrome 2.whatever has middle click scroll. But you do have to be on the 'developer channel' to get the beta releases...

More info: http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel

Just download the file and switch your settings.

I've been using Chrome since it came out. I love it. It's fast, it's stable, and it has every feature that I used in Firefox. My only complaint is that in the recent beta updates they added form auto-complete, but it remembers credit card numbers... so I turned it off.

The biggest advantage I've found with opera is its invunerability to spyware and such. Obviously if you willingly install something thats one thing, but as far as just the stuff you pick up from casual browsing, opera is top notch. I've gone as long as a year without scanning my system, then used three different scanners and found absolutely nothing, and that was after a ton of browsing and some questionable sites (omgpron) and whatnot.

Opera will forever be what I use as my main browser. Unfortunatley it doesn't agree with some websites though, hotmail particularly and some flash sites. So keep another more compatible browser handy. Usually I just use IE in more drastic cases, just very monitored and secured, since running IE is like going to jail bent over with a bottle of vaseline taped to the back of your leg.

Yes. As in it allows nothing to enter your system via web pages etc.

Much like macs and viruses.

See thats because nobody cares enough to make viruses for macs.

If you use adblockplus clear out the adblockplus directory in your profile and readd any subscriptions. For some reason it was adding 11 seconds to my Firefox startup.

Disabling other extensions may also help quicken startup time. IETab and Flashgot both have options which you can disable to speed startup time up by a few seconds each.

Most browsers do great in this area since most viruses and webpage malware target IE and ActiveX (which only IE supports).

Firefox, Chrome and IE7 and up do the same thing...

I actually found Chrome to be really good against bad websites. It's got a list of pages it will put up a splash page warning you it is a harmful website.
I still would like to see it have a noscript/adblock type of thing when/if they release mods for it.

Hah, no, actually it does. It defaults to high security settings, running in protected mode. It might not work unless you decharge your processor's coupling though! :downswords:

Except on that note I was actually correct.

If you took IE through 10 porn sites your computer would be crawling with the black plague. Nice try though. -golf clap-

They just added it in 2.0. :P

Still a little buggy (the hotspot for the cursors is in the upper left) but it works.

I used to use opera non-stop until I had problems getting flash to work right (or even at all) so I use Firefox mostly at this point. I still have Opera on my 512mb flash drive so I might take a look now that I've seen this thread.

IE7, smartass. The only way that would work is if you approved every ActiveX installation you came across. Even then, since IE7 runs in protected mode, the browsing environment is sandboxed and it wouldn't be able to spread to the rest of your OS.
