Favorite Jedi Knight Colormap and Textures?
2009-01-11, 9:14 PM #1
This is a poll of extreme importance. Vote for your favorite colormap and associated textures from Jedi Knight. Sorry, no comedy 16-bit textures option.

I always liked the Nar Shaddaa colormap. It's textures always seemed the most star-warsy to me. The fueling depot colormap and textures would be a close second though.

I voted on what I think I liked. :P

I know if Juz were around, he'd vote for 19descent, since all his levels seemed to canyon oasis themed. :)

Baron for sure, it had a pretty good mix of textures, and by far the most "realistic" in whatever sense of real there is in the Star Wars universe.

This is a good thread... it brings back the memories oh how it does

I went with level 9 just because the red-orange of the fuel tanks complemented the clear blue sky rather nicely... among other things.

Baron's head for me. It's what I used in most of my attempts at levels.
2009-01-11, 11:31 PM #9
For some reason, I like the ground texture in the Sariss fight.

Toss-up between Nar Shadda and Baron's Hed. Those are the only two I ever managed to really successfuly use when I was trying my own level-building.

Even though I dislike colormaps, back in the days when I didn't bother with 16-bit mats I primarily used 01narsh or 09fuel.

As for textures, well, I liked how many callbacks the Nar Shaddaa textures had to DF textures (a few, but moreso than in the other levels).

09fuel. The textures always seemed to match what I was trying to make, and not nearly enough levels used them. I actually dislike 06baron now because of how overused it is.

6000 Block was all 06baron wasn't it? I loved that.

Oh, and for me, don't forget I was rubbish at making levels ;)

I have always been a fan of 09fuel- it makes me feel the most nostalgic (I assume from my very early days of playing the JK demo!)

Yes, it's overused but from an objective viewpoint, it's one of the best in the game.

I voted 06baron, I think my next favorite would be 09fuel. All the valley textures were great, too. In fact, the game had amazing art all around.

Everyone knows the best colormap was a custom colormap.

I always liked how the falling ship worked the same way as condition red.

Everyone loves 09fuel. But nobody ever used it. Except me.

09fuel. There was just something magical about those textures.

I used 06baron for RoX and LoG.

I'm torn between 20val.cmp and 01narsh.cmp. Voted 20 because I used it the most in my levels, but I love the Nar Shaddaa textures too.

Can anyone refresh my memory with a few examples? I can only really remember using 01narsh.cmp, or custom 16bit textures.

06Baron - everything is grey and made of stone.
09fuel - Everything is rusty.
20val - Everything is brown.

Not really, more like shades of red, orange and a bit of brown and gold. It's the Valley Jedi Temple textures.

I always use custom textures, but my favorite stock textures are 09fuel.

I love that level. They're nice and bright too.

We are looking at a release date sometime in Q4 2009.

Unfortunately, JK:Source is slightly delayed because of the yearly "harddrive failure competition" held in New Jersey. Some of the code needs to be rewritten, and the Stormtrooper AI scripting needs to be reworked.

I'm afraid I lost all of levels 9 and 17 in that hard drive crash last week. Don't worry, I was able to get the hard drive working again! It seems to be fine so I'll just leave the data on there.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
