I installed it on a test machine at work. It seemed stable enough, but the test was on a stock install of XP home... :\

Your humble opinion is wrong.

They haven't really after SP1 was released, every bugfix since was to be part of SP2. Which means if you've kept up-to-date SP2 is a much smaller download. Practically every part of SP2 barring new features had been available as updates for months.
