How much worse is a Turion X2 Ultra ZM-82 than, say, a C2D P8400 or a P8600? Or even a T5800 (if it is indeed worse)?

Would you pay $200 more for a P8400 over a ZM-82?

The P8400 is going to be massively, massively faster than the Turion. Like, not even in the same league.

CM is right. A Turion X2 at 2.2ghz would match up with Intel's slowest C2D- something like the E2160.

Sorry Turion Ultra (the one that was released last June with the launch of the Puma platform) not the older Turion/Turion X2. The reason I ask is because I can't seem to find ANY solid information or benchmarks on it even though it's been out for half a year (maybe because it's mobile? But then again there's a wealth of info on the Penryn chips <_<)

[tech] more like [fit parts into the only slots they will fit].

Was hoping for a thread about processor design.

Sowwy Joncy >_<

If it makes you feel any better I'm not even installing a processor. I'm just ... curious. Hahah. (I saw two identical computers on sale but one had a Turion Ultra and the other had a P8400 and the latter cost $200 more)

I actually briefly studied this a couple months back in my computer class... but I didn't pay attention. :P
Nothing to see here, move along.

FWIW, my E2180 (albeit at a 50% overclock), will run Fallout 3 max'd out with a good video card, so I imagine for most purposes, it'd work out okay.
woot!

Maybe if you're getting a useless tech degree.

It's still a Turion, and it's still an AMD chip. Intel will beat the pants off of it. Only the current Phenom 2 CPUs are competitive with Intel now, and that's only in the mid/low range.
