I can't remember is there a patch or process to make JK not run so damn fast on newer computers?

If a patch can someone send it to me at jonsimon (at) tmail (dot) com (direct link won't work, I need the actual file emailed to that address).

If a process, please describe?

Thanks.

The only part that should run fast is the gun waggle animation.

Umm.. So why does it feel like I'm running 160 mph?

I thought running 160mph in JK was normal...?

Pretty normal.

I had these issues in MOTS cutscenes

Also I thought the issue was more the game failing to launch outright or running like crap when it actually did work. I know my issue is the latter.

In XP, JK just crashes a lot for me. I get the "Wanna send some info on this crash to Microsoft to help us improve our stuff?" thing and it's back to desktop.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I just played through JKSP on Vista 64. Worked just fine, except I had to use the windowed GUI.

JK is Gay
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

Imagine having sex with a lightsaber...wouldn't have any sex after that.

yeah youve always ran super super fast, but the cut scenes are screwed up on mine

It's just weird coming back to JK after adapting to the running speed on today's games, and I'm not talking about Force Speed. Not only that, the weapon sway is ridiculous. Kyle must be an advanced kenyan olympics runner with Parkinsons.

I'm going to have to install JK now, just to see what my 4870 does to it..I just found the CDs, too!
woot!
2009-01-25, 9:33 AM #19
But the levels are HUGE, which makes up for the super running.

my guess is it will make JK crash

Well I am predicting with 98% probablity that running JK in 3d will result in massive texture tearing, bleeding, and HOM.

JK uses the a Smacker codec and uses the SMACKW32.DLL to decode. In theory if you can find a newer version of the DLL it might fix the problem.

Unless you're talking about MotS, which uses a proprietary LucasArts-made thing.

Somewhere in XP there is a way to turn off hyperthreading which may or may not help. I don't know how/if that works in Vista or newer CPUs.

It was the only way I could get the original Thief game to work in XP. Might work for JK too.

i have a dual core processor, maybe turning one off would benefit me, but i can still play with two, im just saying maybe itd run normal?
2009-01-25, 5:19 PM #25
Buy an old Pentium II system for $15 somewhere? :P

There are utilities designed to waste CPU resources so older games that were tied to clock frequency remain playable. I have no experience with them, but you may want to try:

http://www.cpukiller.com/
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/CPU-Tweak/Slow-Proc.shtml
http://game-speed-adjuster.downlet.com/

Jedi Knight doesn't take advantage of 2 cores, its single threaded and will attempt to use 100% of whichever core its running on.

You can try setting the affinity of the process to a single core to see if that helps the movie speed.

I wouldn't recommend those slowdown utilities. They're not meant for something as modern as JK. If it actually manages to fix the intro, it'll break the rest of the game.

You should downclock it to like 100Mhz/core <_<

This is all pointless because JK doesn't use static deltas.

So I guess my advice is to buy a machine that isn't running counterstrike cheat programs?

Well, Dark Force levels were smaller, but it felt like Kyle could run even faster.

Or maybe the speed were the same. I remember someone on Massassi did the calculations of Kyle's running speed in JK and DF.

I think they just meant the movies.

You can try putting a newer version of the Smacker DLL into JK's folder, but I doubt it'll work, see as how old the original is. You can also just get the Smacker player and watch them by hand.

The MotS movies have the speed problem but you can't watch them outside the game as far as I know.

You can always just loadup the cutsceen JKLs and watch them that way. And in higher quality, too.

Does terrible acting really need to come in a higher resolution?

I just did it for JK. I found that his normal running speed is about a full sprint of an olympic athlete.

So, slow for a Jedi, then?

Try with 5-star speed. How fast does a Jedi have to go to kill himself upon impact with a wall? :P
woot!

Wow lol, probably a good 100+ mph. But I don't really know xD

JK should only be played on an old system, todays systems are struggling more with it than they do with Crysis.

So play it in software. It runs faster in software on my laptop than it does trying to get my ****ty drivers to play nice with dx7.
