So I have one of these...

And I need some games for it. Right now I'm holding myself over by playing Final Fantasy IX. I wish I could play X and XII but Sony and their infinite wisdom decided to make it only PS1 compatible not PS2 . The person I bought this from (my lead engineer) let me borrow his MGS4 but I all ready played that.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Nice, I'd say make sure you pick up your self some movies when your out too.

If it's your thing, Soul Calibur 4 is always fun. I don't really know any good games other than multi console ones.

Resistance 2
LittleBigPlanet
Also, you can get Bioshock for $20 at Best Buy this week.

My first question is: how good is your pc?

There are a lot of great games that are on both pc and console, if you have a good pc I wouldn't bother with the ps3 versions (for obvious reasons). But if your pc isn't that great then you can enjoy a lot of great games without worrying about upgradeness.

add SgtPnkks to your friends list and buy one or all of the following

Resistance
Resistance 2 (don't have it yet but i'll be buying it soon)
Warhawk
Burnout Paradise
Motorstorm
High Velocity Bowling

also i'll send you an invite to the massassi communist party in home

and the newer PS3s are not PS2 backwards compatible because 1. they have no PS2 hardware inside (20 and 60GB models basically had a whole PS2 inside of them and the 80GB (the old 80GB) had some PS2 hardware inside) 2. the PS2 is apparently such a ***** to emulate even Sony doesn't want to bother with it ... the best way to tell if your PS3 is PS2 backwards compatible is if you have 4 USB ports and a flash card reader it is (and they probably say something on the box but i don't want to bother digging my box out)

If you don't have COD4 already for another console, buy that. Still a pretty huge userbase for online, I'm having a blast and I usually don't like playing MP

I'd say Assassins Creed is worth it for the 17 bucks used you can get it now for

MGS4 was the best game I've ever played, and the online mode is just as deep as any other MP game

And insert the obligatory Resistance 2, LBP, etc. Killzone 2 comes out soon I believe as well

I have a PS3 as well.

I played Final Fantasy X and XII on it. XII was a grind fest and the story sucked. X was probably the last good FF game, even though it was a little weird.

ANYWAY.
Games other than MGS4:

* Resistance 1 and 2 (I haven't played 2 but I'm pretty sure it's good).

* LittlebigPlanet. (The level creation will suck up days of your time, but the game is fun).

*Uncharted: Drakes Fortune <<< this little gem is not often looked at but it's really a fantastic game. I just re-played it over the last couple weeks. Action/adventure. It's got the platforming from Prince of Persia, gears of war cover system, and some treasure hunting. Fun stuff.

Everything else I have is cross-platform: GTA4 and Fallout 3

On a related note, did they patch in real controller set-up for LAIR or does it still have the god-awful sixaxis crap?

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix

(and I miss Final Fantasy VIII too :()

As you asked me before, LittleBigPlanet is probably the best game on the PS3.

I use my PS3 as a DVD/Bluray player and that's about all it's good for. The only game I own that I would recommend to you is Ninja Gaiden Sigma, because it's a high-def port from a much better console.

That's absolutely normal for Final Fantasy games.

7 was the last good one for me.
I got sick of FF8 halfway through, 9 about 20 minutes in, though admittedly I haven't played X.
6 remains my all-time favorite.

VI is fantastic. I just finished playing through it about a month ago (albeit the Anthologies version so a little bit of the magic was ruined :(). 7 I also "just" finished but I haven't fought the final battles and I'm stuck failing against Ruby (haven't even tried Emerald yet ).

FF12 is my favorite because it doesn't have belts made of zippers. Tetsuya Nomura's character designs are all god awful and FF12 is the first 3D Final Fantasy with none of his garbage so I'm calling it my favorite even if it is really boring.

8 is meh. 9 > 8. 9 feels more like old school Final Fantasy (4,5,6). 7 is anime fan wank...although it's not terrible.
