Was just watching it on the Olympics, and it looks like fun.

Does anyone here do it? Anyone tried it?

I haven't.

[ignorant question]Would anyone mind explaining why the archers need loads of little extra bits sticking off the end of the bow?

I'm guessing it's to do with aiming / balancing the bow.

It does look fun. More metal than physical?

I've done it, it's fun and I was quite good at it. (A bullseye everytime I've played) You have to have very good vision and judgement. Arm strength also helps so you can pull bows with heavier pulls (faster, straighter arrow)

I've done it a couple of times, and it's really a good combination between arm strength (to pull back the arrow and be able to keep it steady without swaying) and hand eye co-ordination.

Yeah its fun.

One time I hit a stick-sized branch on a tall tree and got the arrow stuck in it.

Amen, archery is fun. Just don't shoot arrows inside your house; I learned that lesson a few years ago. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Yeah a couple times I got to do it, I was pretty small then though so I didn't have much strength. I'd like to do it again but there isn't really anywhere here that does that.

I've tried it a few times, but the last time I did it I pinged my forearm and left a really nice welt. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I remember doing it in Webelos Scouts. Fun times. In fact I loved it.

Haldo!

I've done archery a few times. It's fun. Basically, any time you get to shoot stuff at other stuff, it's fun.

Archery is awesome. Back in my high school days, a friend and I tried to set up an archery club but no one was really interested except us. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I played it in my phys. ed. class. It was pretty fun even though I wasn't too good at it. Whoever said games can transform people into expert marksmen need to be shot.

Nice reference mate!

Aside, I'd love to try, but never got round to it [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

It is fun. I started it as practice for bow hunting, but really I found it a lot more fun to just shoot at a target.

It's very physical. When you just start out, you will wear out your arm after probably 10-15 shots to the point that you feel like you can't pull the string back a single inch.

And I imagine those things sticking out from the front that you're talking about are counter-weights. Did they look like long, metal rods? Those are basically for what Spork said, to balance the bow. You don't grip the bow with your hand. Instead you just let it rest between your thumb and index finger while the weight and the force of your pulling balances it out.

I really need to drag my bow out and practice some more. Haven't gotten around to it in a while. Wouldn't mind a new single cam bow (my dad has one and it's sweet). My dual cam bow's ok though.

First rule of archery: Never draw an empty bow and release the string.

Bleh, non-moving targets will do just fine for me, thanks. Unless it's the American swim team...

I already explained the flaw in that idea last night, but given the audience here I shall not repeat it.
