I missed them when they were on sale for 90 bucks..due to the abundance of cheap HD DVDs, I want a drive capable of reading both HD DVD and bluray.
woot!

I am going to guess: They wont get cheaper, but will get harder to find.

My logic is: It must cost more to implement the HD-ROM hardware and this feature is very low in demand.

Wait... Wait... why does this cost $100 and blu ray players cost several hundred?

Is it lower quality? Because most computers can be displayed on TVs .. So you have a super cheap Bluray player right there.

What? You can get a Blu-ray player at Walmart for $200, since about a year and a half ago.

It's cheaper because it's the bare drive, it doesn't have any video output or fancy features. It just reads data.

They are cheaper because they rely on the graphics card or the cpu to encode which can be very taxing.

I know you can get them for that much. I said so in my post. But this does a lot more.

Too bad I have a laptop, I'd pick this up.

I should probably get one before they're all gone, then..I think this LG is the only combination drive out there.
woot!

My Slimline came with a combo drive ... I dunno if it was this one but it's awesome :awesome: I personally think an HTPC is way more worth it than a standalone DVD/bluray/HD-DVD/whatever player ... you can do so much more with it.

Yeah, that's the point. If you had an internal player that did the decoding itself, it might as well have a video output.
