What do you listen to when you're depressed?

For me, it's the Counting Crows. I ONLY listen to them when I'm upset about something. To the point where they're on, and my roommate walks in, and without even looking at me asks me what's wrong.

Man, when I saw this thread title, I was going to post "Counting Crows"... not because I find them depressing, overall, but when I'm depressed (or whatever) there are a couple of their songs that just hit the freaking spot.

Uh, when I'm depressed I don't isolate myself and sit around listening to music, I go hang out with friends and have a good time.

I don't think anyone said anything about sitting around or isolating themselves, Squirrel King.

I think they cheer me up because Robert Smith always sounds more miserable than me. :P

*Shrugs* My bad. It's just that I don't get depressed if I'm around other people. So that's just the way I took it. Listening to music can be isolation too (If you're on headphones or something.)

-I listen to country (which I hated before I started going to school in central VA)
-I also have a few a cappella songs from the BOCA cd's that are excellent.
-In general, I make it a policy not to listen to Rent, but the one exception is the I'll Cover You Reprise. Gets me every time.

I actually have a whole play list full of various depressing stuff - it's pretty varied. but when I don't feel like pulling out the play list I juts go for a country song

And then there are the times I'm depressed and I have to listen to fast/bouncy music as loud as possible. Songs most people here would probably hate like Face Down by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

Those are my two different "I'm depressed" song settings.
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

A lot of things. Upbeat songs or bluesy tunes like Aerosmith are good. Pink Floyd works great, especially The Division Bell. Or A Saucerful of Secrets if I'm so depressed that I want to feel like I'm on a serious trip.

Modest Mouse - Polar Opposites
Modest Mouse - Custom Concern
Eels - My Beloved Monster
Gary Jules - Mad World
The Scenic - Hold Me Close
Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
Stonesour - Through the Glass

Not a playlist or anything, just songs I remember having listened to while depressed.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Nouvelle Vauge. They're a french lounge band that does covers and reinterpretations of English music. They're pretty fantastic.

Tallis Fantasia - Ralph Vaughan Williams

If I'm depressed and drinking (excellent combo to start!), that **** will get me to tears.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

If you were actually depressed rather than just feeling a bit down you would not do this.

When I'm feeling a bit glum, I play bouncy music like Reel Big Fish and realise that it's not all that bad.

Especially when you listen to the lyrics and realise nobody's as bitter as Aaron Barrett.

Since it's my favourite song, Brothers In Arms is a no brainer. Terrifically sad song, and very moving. Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of Little Wing is another I like to have on when I feel a little low.

Wearing The Inside Out is a fantastic song for just this sort of occasion. Depending on the source of the depression Wish You Were Here might fit the bill, too, and Echoes is a great listen when you're just not up to doing anything, really.

Alice in Chains
old Modest Mouse (usually Styrofoam Boots, Trailer Trash, things along that line)

I wonder why all the comments to their youtube videos are full of "THIS SUCKS".
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Because they're french.

I just take a speech synthesizer or MusicMax - or whatever that new program adding beats to existing vocals is called - and run these forums through it.
