What's Australia like?

So, my company finally got around to sorting those redundancies they announced way before Christmas, and I was booted out. Fortunately, I've got myself a new job within the week, so no worries as they say. Part of the job involves support of an Australian client and so they'll be sending me and the family out to Sydney for two years. Eeee!

So what's it like out there to live?

I was at a friend's party a few week ago and a couple of guys were claiming to be Australian. My friend (who was hosting the party), his roommate stumbled into a group of people at the party. He goes, "some two *******s are pretending to be Australian!" unbeknown to him, one of those guys was in the group of people he was talking to. So in reply, he gets:

"Oh, that's terrible mate!"

hahahahaha

I'm drunk. :awesome:

It can't be that good in Australia given that most of them seem to end up in London of all places.

Prepare to have terribly expensive, bandwidth-capped, slow internets (at least to anywhere outside Australia, aka 90% of the internet).
2009-02-07, 8:20 AM #14
Actually it's pretty much just as slow to sites within Australia as it is to anywhere else.

The sun is orange/red coloured here in New Zealand, and I'm guessing it's because of smoke from the fires in Oz. It's happened a few times in the past too.

I'm supposed to get a trip to Perth for work at some point. I'm told that's a relatively boring city though.

Well, during the summer, its only a couple degrees warmer than here. So I guess you could cook an egg on the pavement, or leave cookie dough in your car, and come back in some hours, and tada! :P
Nothing to see here, move along.

What about New Zealand?
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

We're way better. There's alot more green in NZ than in Australia. Don't have quite as many bushfires... at least not big deadly ones like Oz.
Alot of kiwis seem to leave NZ to work in Oz though, mainly for much better wages. From what I've heard, we kiwis supposedly have a better work ethic. We do some jobs that some Aussies think you'd be crazy to do. But that's just what I've heard. And I'm sure there is some kiwi bias involved :D

New Zealands origins have way fewer convicts than Australia. As far as I know we were never a penal colony. :)

My Australian Friends from Eve Online are always complaining about their internet connections.

"Sorry, I can't watch that youtube video because I've almost capped my bandwidth for the month." was a common thing to hear.
