Made in JED (I tried JKEdit but couldn't place any things in new extruded sectors so I switched to JED instead) around October 1998... and the only tool I knew how to use was the extruding tool. I still wonder how I got all those multiple Kyles to appear, shooting any of them crashed the game. And I thought making pits as deep as possible automatically made JK do the fadeout thing. Yeah, it's an MP level. And available for download! :v:

I never released a level, but I had a really fun one that involved numerous DEEP pits. Some acted like slides, which would safely take you to other areas (at incredibly high speeds). Others were nothing more than death pits, which were hidden (but not covered, so no silly walk through walls/floor stuff). The death pits were so deep that it would take about 2 minutes to reach the bottom, but that was part of the fun, as dispersed through the pit were random outcroppings. If you managed to hit one, you would die much sooner so you could get back to playing :D

There was even a "springboard" elevator to take you back to the top of the level in various sections, which would start off with a rapidly accelerating elevator, then it would stop, and a cog would launch you in the air, as if the elevator had acted like a springboard.

Never finished the level though, because as much fun as it was, I couldn't get over the crappy geometry :D

The website with the only level I ever released doesn't exist anymore.

[Edit: I actually just went hunting in a few palces to see if I could find it any discovered that someone's actually knicked one of my skins and uploaded it somewhere else under their name.]
nope.

A while after I made it, I had my first released level taken down from Massassi... it was for JO, and it didn't even have a valid .arena file... so basically, it couldn't be found in the level menu, you had to launch it from the console... I'm not really sure why it was uploaded, haha.

I guess my only level that's up at the moment is "Jawa Oasis" which, really, is a piece of crap but it was a lot of fun and it had a bit of charm (that was hampered by its poor construction, unfortunately).

all of my released levels are crap as it is so keep the expectations low for this one

the only screenshots i have for it are on that page and no i will not download it and play it again just for screenshots

I had a level for JO that I never released that, in my opinion, wasn't COMPLETELY terrible. But it was pretty bad. Zell might remember it.

I left editing shortly thereafter.
I had a blog. It sucked.

I vaguely vaguely remember it. [EDIT: Curse you Thrawn! :argh: I was referring to Zloc's post.]

I've never released a level, but I did release this tasty Zell's soda dispenser, complete with a missing texture package! :awesome:

NOasis.

It was (geometry wise) pretty polished. It was not however polished in terms of having any sense of flow, item placement and was lit far too dimly.

MAD PROPZ to Brian for his pipe/sewer tutorial which accounted for about half the play area, and 90% of the time I spent making the bloody thing!

I guess I never submitted it .. But I remember my first level was just a small room.

Code:
/|
[]

it was kind of shaped like that.
It had a bunch tables and boxes.

Why would you follow Brian's lame tutorial and not my awesome one? I mean unless you want all your 'sewers' to have unnaturally sharp angles where all the **** will pile up.

I'd post pics, but then I'd have to find the DVD where I stored all that stuff.

I didn't really have a "first level." I was wise enough to practice techniques before attempting to actually build anything. :tfti: My earliest projects though, which I did back in the 7th grade, were actually not bad.

My first and only (official) release was Space Noxx. Some of you may have played Space Noxx II, which was :awesome:

I don't have pictures of my first levels anymore... well, I do, but they're on an old hard drive and I don't want to go dig it up. They're pretty crappy though..

My first level is gone forever. It was a multiplayer remake of secbase.

nothing is worse than losing your first few works, i wish i still had my old old unreal levels
2009-02-08, 7:03 PM #29
I had a lot of little levels I never made.

I was working on this cool one with large room size vats of acid. And like one of the vats was OMG just green water and you can swim to the bottom, blast out a grate and get into a secret control room. BUT, there was a huge fan at the outlet you could crawl through. So if you didn't hug the right wall to get into the adjacent pipe you'd get sucked through the fan and die. It was pretty neat.

I kind of wish I didn't suck at HAMMER or Unreal ED so much, because I'd go re-do it. It was a cool idea (I thought)

Yeah. Also, JM's tutorial does indeed rock compared to my original pipe tutorial. Of course, it was written almost a decade later but who's counting? ;)

But you made Massassi what it was so you still got one up on him :P

Looks this one is the first level I actually released.
Smugglers Base on Corellia
I don't have any screenshots of it. I do remember having some good fun in this level though.

In all honesty, I don't know if I even saw your tutorial at the time! Maybe you hadn't written it.

That said, my sewers did curve more naturally than at 90 degrees, but I think I figured out how to do that bit myself.
2009-02-08, 10:17 PM #35
I've done some ridiculous perfect polygon stuff over the years. I don't just mean in visual appeal but also in technique. It's funny that the entire thing could be replaced by a lathe tool in a modern 3D modeling suite.

I wish I had some screenies of the sewer in that level: it had knee deep water and I THINK I 'pinched' thin slices of pipe to make it look like it was jointed.

Shame the rest of the level was utter toss though :awesome:

A while back I reformatted the hard drive that had all the utilities and all the unfinished work relevant to JK. Just didn't see a point in even finishing them, JK was dead then, and its even more now.

But my first level was nothing more than a box :P (tutorial level) :P
Nothing to see here, move along.
2009-02-09, 12:27 AM #38
I bet if you could you'd release the default jed box as your own level.

If mine was written in march of 99... you wrote yours in, what, 90? How'd you pull that off? And why'd you wait until July of 98 to show the world your psychic powers?
