Familiar with TeX?

I'm taking a graduate course online this semester, and the quizzes and tests are to be uploaded as .docs or .pdfs. I've been writing them up in word using the equation editor, then exporting to .pdf, but I don't really like the way it winds up looking.

I was wondering if anyone was a TeX user, and could recommend a version for Windows. There seems to be enough choice to confuse me. I was about to download proTeXt, but figured I'd check here first.

I'm assuming you have MikTex as your Tex distro, and I use WinEdt for my editor. It's probably not the best one per se, I've seen fancier ones with more toolbars and toggles but the editor doesn't really make very much difference. Just get used to writing TeX code, if you learn to memorise TeX code rather than rely on toolbars you'll get stuff done much faster.

Welcome to the wonderful world of TeX! You'll get used to it very fast and it's awesome. The very idea of writing an equation in Word equation editor now seems like scraping a fork across my eyeball.

Also, not to derail this thread, but is there TeX capability for Adobe Illustrator CS2? I need to make a poster with lots of equations, and going through Greek symbols is just painful.

I also use WinEdit. It's annoying at first to figure out how to make things happen, and I've yet to find a decent TeX manual, but over time you find things and figure it out.

I use LEd. It has a really convenient preview pane and excellent features.
