I need a small favor from someone running Vista x64

In Windows Vista and upwards, Microsoft removed support for viewing legacy HLP files. In order to view them, you need an update that installs the legacy help viewer. Trouble is, there won't be one of these updates for Windows 7 until it is released later this year. The help viewer works, just not the installer.

So, I need one of you who is running Vista x64 to go here and download the x64 update, install it and zip up the following files and post them here.

\Windows\WinHlp32.exe
\Windows\en-us\WinHlp32.mui.exe

Thanks!

Pretty sure that's what you're looking for.

Thanks, but the download won't work. If it's not busy taking a ridiculous amount of time, it's complaining about too many downloads per session.

You might try drop.io or FlyUpload.

You can try downloading the update in EXE form and extracting the files by hand.

Or rather msu form. Oh yeah use the Server 2008 version since it's probably newer...

[Edit: nm. msu == cab but it uses crazy Windows Installer stuff that's impossible to figure out.]

Greenboy, you did install the update first, right? I tried those files but it still doesn't work. :(

MZZT, I extracted the MSU but it's all in some crazy Windows Update format. It's all broken into hundreds of tiny files.

The update froze at the very end for me, but I assumed it had worked. Guess not.

Oh well, don't worry about it. Thanks for the effort though.
