FF7 did too, and it was an even worse port.

I played it years ago on the PC before and it seemed fine to me ...

Eh? I had 100 Deaths junctioned and Squalls attack used to just make regular enemies disappear in red flash like ff7 enemies. :P
nope.

Yeah, I've never played any FF game on a console (except FFX on a borrowed PS2) and I never had any troubles with it.
DO NOT WANT.

I think I do recall you not being able to change the key bindings for it and some commands would only work with the key pad, not the numbers above text so you had to use the function key, which was weird ... but that may have been another game. (laptop)

FF just feels weird on a keyboard. At least get a gamepad or something.

I got like two hours into 8 and lost interest <_< junction system and card game were cool but I dunno. I liked 6's Esper system better because it made sense from both a gameplay and plot point of view. 7's Materia were like a dumbed down / hot-swappable version of the Espers but at least they were CENTRAL to the storyline.

The junctioning system is a major aspect to the storyline. One of the dynamics is that they've lost memories because the GF's have made room for themselves in the characters' brains.

Also, Martyn, if your status attack stopped working it was probably a result of you switching to a GF that didn't have a status attack junction. :p
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Lassev: I guess there was something captivating in savagery, because I liked it.

Yeah, the GF/Junctioning is a major plot point in FF8. Sometimes it takes longer than 2 hours to find these things out.

Yeah I figured it would be and I wasn't implying that it wasn't (actually you don't even get Espers in 6 until halfway through the game). I was just commenting on what I liked about the other games.

Kirbs, play Grim Fandango if you haven't yet. The characters, the screenplay, the music, and the gameplay are all superb.

Also try the Baldur's Gate series for an RPG with a good story and good gameplay, but the characters aren't that well developed until the second game (that is, unless you download the NPC banters mod)
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

That's because most of them, were console strict players, who had never seen a PC game. So from a console perspective it was. But I was playing ut2k4 and didn't understand the hype about halo

Done right, I think Metroid would make a pretty bad-*** sci-fi.

I've seen a few movies that had terrible plots, but somehow they were still good. It all depends on how the director gets it done.

Hence why I said Halo could make a good movie, if the writer and director are capable.

PS: Perfect Dark was a console shooter. Goldeneye was a console shooter. Those were good shooters, if not my favorite shooters ever. I have no idea why the first Halo was praised so much. It's like, the new-gen gamers wouldn't know a good game if one came up to them and sat on their head. Running through the same hallway about 30 times only to find out you're going backwards is far from fun. The level design was a big blob of copy+paste.

Those purple hallways will be stuck in my mind forever.

Yeah.. Mafia was pretty good.
Cliche and stuff, but still a really good fusion of movie-like story and gameplay. Though the driving was horrendous.

Anyone with a controller and a simple program like Xpadder can use whatever (controller) buttons they wish, joystick support or not ;)
