Horrendous ordeal with Alitalia at the Rome International Airport. It's long but worth the read.

Quote:
Five enormous black men stormed up to the manager while punching their hands with their fists.

“Mother****er!” one of them said and flared his eyes and his nostrils. I thought for sure we were about to see blood on the floor.

The black man was hyperventilating and literally shaking while he tried with all his might to restrain himself from committing violence. A few passengers stepped between him and the manager. None of us wanted a riot. But a riot felt imminent.
Dreams of a dreamer from afar to a fardreamer.

That was horrible.

I noticed some were blaming it on socialism in the comments. Finland is pretty socialist and Finnair is (I think still) owned by the government, and yet it's nothing like that.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

well, the bigger problem is that it isnt doing anything to improve, and yet it is still getting plenty of unrestricted government support (until the EU stepped in and stopped them from giving them any more bailouts till 2011)

And the biggest problem is the failure to understand Italian culture. They aren't, as a rule, terribly polite people.
2009-03-16, 5:35 AM #8
Wow. I just finished reading, and that was an epic tale. I expect to see a straight to DVD film sometime soon >.<

That was insanity.
Think while it's still legal.

I know a few Italians, they all say the same thing about their country...none want to go back.

I've personally never been there myself and although I often don't have a great deal of good things to say about the UK, I don't hate the place like a lot of Italians seem to about Italy.
People of our generation should not be subjected to mornings.

I liked with an Italian bloke for about a year until last September and he seemed to quite like Italy. :P
nope.

And just today in my one class I was told I have to visit Italy by my professor. I know what airline not to take. Wow

If by that you mean they'll screw you over readily like that airline does, I must remember NEVER to visit Italy.

No I'm fairly sure he means what he said, Italians generally aren't overly polite.

Neither are Germans. :P
nope.

I like how the jerk manager said "You do not summon me like you would your family!" after he said "Excuse me" and his reply after that was even better. Haha...

Couldn't he sue the company?

No.

Outside of North America we don't sue each other for kicks. :P

[For the record, I'm kidding.]
nope.

He could have contacted the US Consulate in Italy, surely they would have been able to help him?

And he probably could sue them for his $600, or at least for his damaged luggage since they operate inside the United States (and that's where they delivered his damaged luggage).

I think this story might have a bit of healthy embellishment. The guy's writing style is a bit self-indulgent, at least.

I'm sure most of the stuff actually happened, but the quotation's are a bit odd... it just reminds me a bit of that story from that rave that got shut down a few years ago (remember?).

The comments are awesome.

"I'd be careful, though, because information like this could be useful to terrorists.
"A whole airline company run by incompetent jackasses? They'll never stop us!""

"Heck, I hope they do choose this airline. They'll never get off the ground.:)"

"Good point, Kevin. Attention terrorists: Alitalia is totally the best airline for getting off the ground quickly! Its so great, that you can announce your intentions to the airport terminal before you take off because there is literally no chance you will be stuck there longer than you are scheduled to!"'

When I was 16 I flew Alitalia on my trip to France. It was quite nice, and the sexy stews were just that - sexy.
TAKES HINTS JUST FINE, STILL DOESN'T CARE

That's amazing. Totally surreal story. Apparently he's not the only one that hates Alitalia.

They also tend to be selfish. Like all stereotypes, they don't hold true even a majority of the time; but that lady in the last bit, who won't get their luggage because it's better for her, fits the stereotype. So does that manager who *****ed about being 'summoned'.

Reminds me of my relatives.
2009-03-16, 4:28 PM #28
The luggage lady was in Chicago, not Italy.

She was also Italian.
nope.

That story engulfed me in hatred. Now I want to yell at someone who deserves it.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Sounds like a good was to get the crap beat out of you. I would never treat people that badly, no matter how irritable I was, because eventually you're going to run into a really big guy with a short temper.

Welcome to Italians.
nope.
2009-03-18, 5:05 AM #33
Actually most of them are just fine. Chances are, though, the good people who worked at Alitalia either quit already, or tried to stand up to management and got fired.
