Ctrl+backspace is one key too many to be
DO NOT WANT.
2009-03-17, 12:00 AM #9
Heh, I use that one all the time actually

I also like ctrl+shift+left or right to highlight entire words at a time. Basically, ctrl is like a modifier for "make this action happen to a whole word"

And before I post anything on any forum (or submit any text over the internet actually) I ctrl+a ctrl+c to save a copy to my clipboard! though I expect you all to know those... ;)

how about ctrl+shift+'+' for superscript and ctrl+'+' for subscript (that's control shift plus, and control plus)

Hold ctrl and press left and right, it scrolls through words, and add a shift for highlighting fast with the keyboard. I use a bunch of editing/typing shortcuts, I love them.

Alt+Space+M in window moves the window (with the arrow keys, then then mouse)

Alt+Space+N minimises current window

I hate that Ctrl+L doesn't highlight the URL bar in IE (work), like it does in EVERY OTHER BROWSER so I have to use F6.

Whoa, I never knew that move window let you use the arrow keys. I always wondered what the point of it was when you could just click and drag.

Useful when using two monitors and one of them is off, leaving a window stranded in an invisible portion of the desktop.

umm.. doesn't work?

(although in Firefox, Ctrl+"+" or "-" zooms in or out. This can also be accomplished with Ctrl + mousewheel. Very useful to prevent sidescrolling. Also, I use it alot, since I use my TV screen as my primary monitor and my eyesight sucks. If I'm trying to read something specific, I zoom in on the text or to see the whole page, I zoom out.)
[edit : Oh also, Massassi Forums are cool, cause it automatically adjusts its edges to fill the whole screen, so when you zoom in it makes the words bigger and reformats them into the smaller space, so there's no side scrolling]
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Alt + D works in both.

F6 highlights the address bar in Firefox/Internet Explorer/Windows Explorer.

Speeds up a lot of things for me.

For my fellow users of Visual Studio (some of these may depend on your setup):

Ctrl+Shift+A: Add new item
Shift+Alt+A: Add existing item
Shift+Alt+C: Add new class (I like this one)

If you've typed out a function even w/params but not defined it, on the same line hit Ctrl+K,M. It will add the func for you including params and datatypes. I REALLY like that one.

Ctrl+Shift+F9: Deletes all breakpoints
F12: Navigate to definition
Ctrl+-: Navigate backwards. That's the minus key on the number row NOT num pad.
F5: Run w/ debugging
Shift+F5: Run w/o debugging.
F2: Rename method/variable/property/class etc
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Backspace goes one level up in Explorer windows. Though in Vista/7 I think it just might go back which is much less useful.

Alt + Left and Alt + Right = Back/Forward in browser and Explorer windows.

Shift+F10 == Application key

Alt + - = MDI version of Alt + Space

F3 = Find Again

F5 = Refresh

Win + R = Run

Win + 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 in Vista/7 = Run that quick launch/superbar item

Win + Up/Down in 7 = Maximize/Restore/Minimize

Win + Left/Right in 7 = Move window to other monitors

Win + P in 7 = Quickly adjust secondary monitor configuration (P is for Projector)

Double Click Text = Select Word
Triple Click Text = Select Paragraph

Ctrl + T = New Tab (in Web Browsers)
Ctrl + W = Close Tab (in Web Browsers)

Ctrl + Escape = Open Start Menu (for keyboard without a Win key)
Alt + Escape = Task Switch???
Ctrl + Shift + Escape = Task Manager (unlike Ctrl + Alt + Delete, skips the full screen thing on "Pro" Windows)
Shift + Escape in Chrome = Open Chrome Task Manager

Alt + Space = Open a window's Control Menu
Tap Alt = Keyboard focus to a window's menu
Alt + Enter = Switch to fullscreen/windowed mode in apps that support this shortcut or console windows (Doesn't work in Vista/7 consoles because MS hates you)

Well, for fellow mac users, command+left/right is home/end. I really missed those keys when I first switched.

e:They also seem to be browser back/forward in Firefox, which annoys me.

shift+tab to move backwords through input fields in an HTML form, tab to move forward

or, in some IDEs (all that I have tried) shift+tab selected copy, will back up 1 tab.
