I think it appears "disgusting" because of his grubby hand, and the fact that you have to peel the plastic back to reveal the drive.

Grubby? Apparently the dude was in an accident bad enough to rip his finger off, do you think his hand is supposed to be ivory? Even if it happened a year ago, he could have circulation issues, scarring, and burn wounds.

The finger is not permanently attached to his hand, so it can be easily left plugged into a computer when in use.

This was my main concern. I was picturing him plugging the drive into the computer and then having to type with one hand, and thinking, "You know, I didn't really think this through."

he doesn't have to type with one hand, he just can't use that particular finger in his other hand. He probably wouldn't use it anyway since it's plastic and he can't feel the keys with it. It would just be gross if the accidentally left it there.

Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

No, I get that. I'm just saying that if he hadn't made the finger removable he'd have had no use of his hand once he plugged it in.

My friend and I were talking about this yesterday. I'd totally do the same thing, same with my friend. We're geeks, though.

Just need to make sure it's dry before plugging it in.
2009-03-18, 9:33 PM #26
What would water do to it? It's not going to short it out?

That. Except for the agreeing with TE part, that's exactly what's gross about it.

Water does not harm electronics. As long as they are allowed to dry before being used.

When I open the package for my first flash drive, I dropped the drive in a bowl of chili before I could even use it. Washed it, let it dry, and it worked just fine.
