Best Final Fantasy Game?
2009-03-23, 11:09 AM #1
I am referring to the titles as their American releases. Yes, I am aware that Final Fantasy III is actually VI, thank you.

Final Fantasy VI has the most professional music and quite neat plot but the graphics do suck, Final Fantasy VII is extremely over-nerd-rated but because it was basically the first RPG I played I still hold it high in my books, Final Fantasy VIII and IX were great games with .. well, gameplay but I wonder what's the name of the part of the world where people don't even remember that those games exist...

Why haven't there been any FF games since IX?

(I like to think of FF6-FF9 as one big game so I can't really pick ultimate favorites)

To me, Final Fantasy X felt more like a movie than anything. Still liked it a lot though.

XII is great, mostly because it was the first in the series I had ever played.

Kingdom Hearts II was actually pretty enjoyable.

Chrono Trigger is just :awesome:

I voted for FFXI, since it's held my attention for getting on five years, and there is some excellent writing in it.

The rest? Each has its ups and downs, and I couldn't really pick out a favourite otherwise.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

JPN FF2, 3 and 5 have been released in the real world.

FF 7 and 8 are tied in my books, but I voted 7 because it was the first I played.
DO NOT WANT.

I had to vote for Final Fantasy 12 because it is the best Final Fantasy by any empirical measure. My favorite is probably Final Fantasy 8, although it would easily be Final Fantasy 5 if I had access to the game at a younger age.

In all honesty, though, I've spent a lot more time playing Final Fantasy 12 than any other Final Fantasy (which isn't all that hard, really). In terms of dollars per hour I've definitely gotten my value out of FF12 which is more than I can say for any other game released that year.

I've only played into like an hour of FF XII

Err, IV and V have both been released...

VIII is my favourite... Maybe, it's hard to choose between that and VII.

I'm sure that Fishstickz will explain why FFXII is probably the best in terms of whatever but I really just didn't like it. :P
nope.

I only owned a PS1 .. and much after all the FF for it were released.

I enjoyed 7 and 8 a ton. 7 was more fun for me being the first FF game I played. I liked 8's story better, but 7 was more fun.

I was about to yell at you for not including VI but then I saw your note.

I think you should've listed VI as VI since III was finally released in the US (for DS). (Man, it was a hard and storyless game with an immensely difficult final boss). Also, IV should be listed as IV cuz everyone knows it by IV now and it was awesome and classic while II was weird.

Anyways I picked III (VI) but my choices would be VI, IV, and VII.

I love FF3/6 to death. I think it's a fantastic game, but it's a character driven game, and when all is said and done, I love the more grandiose scale and politics driven story in FF12. It's a much more polished game, with adult dialogue and a more complex system of character progression. You can make arguments about the battle system or weak characters, but for the first time in 20 years, the series finally took a step forward.

How did you manage to miss a bunch of Final Fantasy titles but include a bunch of non-Final Fantasy titles?

All of these titles are widely recognized as Final Fantasy titles.

I wasn't aware that the bottom 3 are Final Fantasy games.

And I don't count Kingdom Hearts.

Also 2,4 and 5 were released in the US.
nope.

So where's Xenogears, the game that was originally going to be Final Fantasy 7?

Also, Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2 ARE Final Fantasy games.

They contain all the classic spells of a FF game, such as Thundaga, Firaga, Blizzaga, Demi, etc. They contain moogles. The level up system is similar to many previous FF games. It has many different characters from throughout the FF series (Auron was in your party. Own much?). Disney allowed Square to use it's characters, music, themes, and that was all. Square came up with the story, plot, etc.

It's like saying that Plantains aren't a real Banana. Hello?

I don't have ALL of them on the list, just a decent portion of them.

Yet you're missing ACTUAL FF games.

Poor show.
nope.
2009-03-23, 7:07 PM #28
The only thing Chrono Trigger has in common with the old FF series is a modified ATB <_<

Your list is more like "Square/Square-Enix games".

Technically anything without the name "Final Fantasy" in the title isn't a part of the FF series. Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II are part of the Kingdom Hearts series, which features FF characters.

And you left out Dissidia =_=

He's also missing Ehrgeiz, which is a part of the Final Fantasy series as much as Kingdom Hearts is.
