The old starwars movies when they were only on DVD in europe, came in these strange plastic sleeves. Also episode 1 when it was released on DVD, or when I purchased a DVD player, I can't remember which came first.

Whoa.

Uhm...I got Office Space as a gift because somehow my old copy disappeared. Does that count? :P

Luckily, I have friends like DrkJedi82 so I have absolutely no need to buy movies.

If I have a sudden urge to watch a movie, I'll download it illegally.
Though my friend can beat your multiple movie buys.

An above mentioned friend has every copy of every Godfather film available. (VHS, DVD set, DVD individual, BR set, BR individual, some other formats too, I think..)

You should post a picture of that thing.
I have bought Star Wars 5 times, (VHS copies 3 times because they broke, and two DVD sets because we lost one when we last moved.)

2009-03-29, 2:40 AM #13
Err...I paid to see 300 twice at the cinema? The only reason I'd buy two copies of any film would be if I lost the first one.
2009-03-29, 2:52 AM #14
Star Wars Original Trilogy (Special Edition VHS, 2004 DVD release)
- The RotJ VHS was faulty so I returned to first one

Batman Begins (2-disc DVD, 2-disc DVD with a FANCY HOLOGRAM PLATE)
- The latter just cost like 10 euros so ... yeah

I'm fairly certain I've bought a lot of other films on the same "it's completely same except for this PROCESSED MEAT SHAPED AS THE FILM'S MAIN CHARACTER that comes with it" principle but can't remember them right now.

But I guess I'll at least get the films that are worth seeing in high definition (ooh Blade Runner) when I'll get a Bluray player in 2018.

Now GAMES that I've bought more than once is a totally different thing. And Deus Ex is on the top of that list with 7 purchases. (Still looking for the 8th copy - the Israeli edition - to crown the rest)

I've bought the original trilogy twice, first on VHS then DVD.

Other than that, I can't recall ever buying anything twice. Although if Ergo Proxy ever came out on Bluray I'd probably buy that again, AND get a Bluray player for it.

I'll probably get a few movies on Blu-ray later on. So far, the only movies I have had doubles of are the Star Wars movies. VHS, VHS Special Ed. and the DVD's. I do have two copies of Episode I, but that's cause my wife got full screen instead of widescreen.
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

Ghostbusters, Twice on VHS because the first one went missing.
Die Hard 1-3 VHS/DVD.

I don't really see the point in buying a film twice.
nope.

I feel bad for you and your HD DVD movies.

Well only because after so many years you'll be thinking "I'd love to see this movie that just came out last year...oh wait.

2009-03-29, 4:05 PM #31
I went to see Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring when it came out at the cinema. Then I excitedly got the DVD when it came out a few months later! Then I excitedly got the Extended Edition when that came out in November of that year!

Then I excitedly went to see Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers when that came out! Then I got the DVD too, completely forgetting the Extended Edition that was coming out of November of that year! So I got that too, somewhat begrudgingly.

Then I excitedly went to see Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King when that came out! Retardedly, I bought the DVD, again forgetting the Extended Edition, so much to my annoyance I got that too when that November came around.
So now I've seen all three at the cinema, I have all three DVDs, and I have all three Extended Editions, and I've probably spent around £100 on those ****ing movies.

And yet, I still want the Limited Edition versions.. :(

Almost certainly, though I don't have a Bluray player.

I still have my HD-DVD player somewhere collecting dust. I had to hide it in a cupboard because it made me cry to look at it.

Galaxy Quest (VHS, DVD)
Mystery Men (VHS, DVD)
Star Wars IV, V, VI (VHS, DVD)

DVDs are nicer but money is not something that we generally throw around. Or spend on stuff that we already have.
