Ever wonder what Wii games would have looked like if the Wii could do HD?

Thanks to the magic of emulators and filters, now you have your answer :awesome:

(For full awesomeness, use this link and click on the HD button to view the 720p version)

[The video embed isn't 720p so it makes this pointless... use the link above]

Here's Metroid Prime in 1080 (I think Youtube is capped at 720 though so it's downscaled)

The wii doesn't do HD?

FYI, if you add &fmt=22 to the end of your youtube links, it'll link straight to the HD version. 18 for high quality. :P
nope.

Wii only outputs up to 480p if you use component and 480i otherwise.

Thanks for the fmt=22 tip, I was trying fmt=21 and it kept failing :p I know the 18 one though.

So it makes the low-quality textures even clearer? Awesome. :awesome:

Youtube is not in 720p HD, I hope you guys realize that. It is nowhere near 1280x720, it's more like 854X480, which is like an odd 16:9 square pixel 480p.

The fmt=22 on videos that were uploaded in 720p are in fact 1280x720.

Show me one because I have yet to see any that are. That brawl video, when added with the fmt=22 (which is the same as clicking the HD button), is the resolution I stated, not anything close to 1280x720.

Err I dunno where you're getting that resolution ... I took a snip of just the video window and it's 1387x796, which is pretty close to the 1366x768 native res of most 720p displays (the discrepancy can be attributed to the fact that snipping tool adds that red border + my own lack of precision/patience in capturing the EXACT video area). Youtube supports uploading H.264 files in 1280x720, so unless it's for some reason downscaling it to the resolution you cited and then upscaling it from the downscaled version when fmt=22 is used, there's no reason why it wouldn't remain in that resolution.

What are you doing, fullscreening the video? All that does is stretch the picture, you have no idea that it's really 720p under that. And the fact that youtube accepts 720p files does not mean it displays 720p footage.

I didn't fullscreen the video -- that snip was just from viewing the normal youtube window (I run 1920x1080).

Yeah it's not showing at anything near that size. Doesn't matter if I click the button or use the fmt=22. All I get is that resolution box I stated above.

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/41063/yt.jpg is what I see.

Took a look around google and apparently some people can't get it displaying above the resolution you cited (weird 480p). There's a guy in that Engadget comment thread who has the same problem. Don't know what the cause is, though.

It's definitely showing 720p on my screen, though.

Still, it's very impressive what these guys have acomplished.
