Stuff about W7 RC and updating

Just a FYI. Summary:

  • It's going to be available May 5th to download, or now if you're a MSDN/TechNet subscriber
  • In the final release version of W7, only upgrades from Vista (not XP) are going to be allowed. XP users are gonna have to clean install.
  • MS really really really doesn't want you to "upgrade" from the Beta (build 7000 or whatever you're using) to the RC (see article for reasons -- mostly has to do w/ getting info from upgrading from Vista or clean installing for bug fixing). There is a 'hack' that they're allowing, though, if you really want to do it (again, see the bottom of the article for instructions).

Can't wait--even the "beta" is ****ing awesome. It's everything Vista SHOULD have been. Hopefully the RC is swankalicious.

Good, so I won't have to do a clean install to upgrade from my Windows 7 Beta 7000 build. Either way, the RC will be coming out right around the time the semester ends for me so I won't to worry too much about losing important files incase something goes wrong.

Yeahhh ... I'm contemplating whether or not to just do another clean install cuz I don't have THAT much stuff installed on (it's a dual boot anyways) and I might as well be nice to MS since they really want data from clean installing <_< (They *did* say there were some weird bugs that came from upgrading from previous builds of W7 that they didn't bother fixing ...)
