The new survival mode is surprisingly fresh and fun, but limited in its replayability.

is survival mode the one where they unleash hordes of zombies at you? If so- thats a lot of fun, not sure why it would be limited

Well, it's the exact same thing over and over again, the only challenge is trying to beat your prior record. Fun, but I can't imagine doing it past a certain point.

I see where Kirbs is coming from. I felt the same with Horde mode in Gears 2 and somewhat with Nazi Zombies in COD5.

Sounds great though. I'll have to try it out with my friend - he's a hardcore L4D player.

Oh if my comp wasn't outdated :|

How outdated? L4D is a very forgiving game. I'm running it on a PC that's (mostly) over 5 years old (with the exception of the graphics card, which is a mere 2.5 years old):

Athlon XP 3000+
1 GB RAM
NVIDIA 7600 GT (AGP version)
NForce2 mobo

I run it at around 1280x1024 res, with mostly low settings, but it still looks pretty decent and runs smoothly (i've seen survival mode make it judder occasionally though).

Oh and yeah, in spite of all that I know I need a new PC.

Whoa it's GHarris!

Well, I got this machine in Nov 2004. It has Pentium IV 2.66ghz, 1536MB RAM, Geforce 8600GT 256 MB and it ran Bioshock extremely well with most settings on maximum back in 2007. O' the times!

It's actually more about finding new places to exploit. Which, through this discovery, is oddly fun. Hey guys, let's all camp in this corner and spam!

I had to upgrade my pc a bit to play it, although I was running an x300se and 512mb of ram.

:(

Survival is fun! Personally I think the lighthouse map is the best because most of the camping points in it are horrible. :P

Yay being tank-punched off a cliff!
nope.

I got tank punched into the ocean almost every time I played.

Fantastic marketing move, I'm surprised comanies don't do that more often. I have the retail version of L4D, but frankly, I prefer the UT3 kind of multiplayer.

You can run it on max with AA at around 2x or 4x at 1280x1024. Something like that.

My brother has the same video card.

I can run it completely maxed :3

Crytek has done this several times with Crysis Wars. It's proven pretty efficient.

I'll probably consider buying this game over the summer to play.

You wouldn't have if Matrinix didn't keep on blowing everything up.

:argh:
nope.

The Tank got a nice boost now that it can hit more than one person with one punch.

The Versus finale of Dead Air and Death Toll seem biased toward Infected due to lack of places to camp and spam melee. I haven't seen Survivors win those two with human controlled AI. Maybe it takes time for the average Survivors team to figure out a winning plan (i.e. find a nice corner and melee spam.)

It's nice that the 2 campaigns have been added for Versus... but I can't help feel they should have been there since day one.

I feel that they weren't included because they simply just aren't anywhere near as fun as the other 2. Although I have actually seen people win Dead Air before.

I didn't survive. :(
nope.

They need to make a Survival Versus mode next.

2009-04-30, 4:46 PM #21
The thing about Versus is that it tends to be alot more fun playing Infected than Survivors. For example, getting Boomer'd pretty much every 20 seconds can easily get on the nerves, even if it doesn't cost much HP from the attack. When the AI controls Boomers, it usually spawns it many feet away and lets its fat*** waddle over to the Survivors, but humans like to be bastards with the class and spawn it 2 feet away in some unwatched corner.
