Synergy

I know some of you massassians use Synergy for their computers. So I'm hoping that you can provide some solutions to my problem.

I am trying to set synergy between my desktop and laptop. I am using the following names: desktop, and laptop. Desktop is the server. Laptop is the client. I configured the links to be laptop is left of desktop. Desktop is right of laptop. I am able to launch the server sucessfully, but here is where my problems start.

No matter what I do I can't seem to get my laptop to connect to my desktop, or vice versa. I tried using by computer name, using by ip, and port forwarding. I already unblocked synergy in my firewall. Having said that, I'm running out of ideas and I'm tired of seeing this message:

WARNING: failed to conenct to server: address not found for: desktop.

So what else can I do? I tried port forwading, ip address, and user name.

Oh, I forgot to mention that desktop (server) is using Vista 64 bit, and my laptop is XP 32bit.

Thanks guys.

Try turning off your firewall to ensure that you did, in fact configure it correctly. If turning it off fixes it, you configured it wrong.

I turned off the firewalls on both machines, and tried search by name, search by ip as well as leaving the port forwarding options intact. Still no dice :suicide:

Dumb question, but it shot me in the foot for a while - is the laptop on wireless and the desktop on ethernet? I know that broke Synergy for me.

Instead of calling them desktop and laptop, call them the actual names of the PCs that you call them on the network.

Thanks CM! That did the trick! But now that its working, my mouse has some serious lag. What gives? My keyboard is fine, my mouse clicking and mouse wheel is fine too. Its just only when I move my cursor onto the client machine and it lags like nuts.

Mine would do that every once in a while. Usually letting it sit still for a while, or rebooting the machines solves it :/

Unfortunately synergy is buggy software, and it just isn't developed anymore.

Okay, I decided to ditch Synergy. I found another program called Input Director. It took me all of 30 seconds to download and install and setup on both machines. IT WORKS GREAT. I highly recommend this over synergy if you are using windows.
