Actually if they want to make people think all rips are low quality like this instead of figuring how to directly rip a high quality copy this may not be as stupid as it seems.

That still circumvents the copy protection, so in essence, isn't sanctioning this the same as sanctioning any other means of circumventing the copy protection?

It would be fantastic.

I thought it meant just recording stuff with a VCR until I read it.

:(
nope.

see question above about "doesn't this still circumvent copy protection? How is this any better?"
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Watching the video at the bottom almost hurts. It's like listening to a car salesman rip off my grandma.

You're an idiot. What they're trying to do is stop people from torrenting DVDs, and no, bootlegging a videotape isn't the same as ripping a DVD.

You can't do that either, though. Macrovision has been around since the 80s, and given the wording of the DMCA you're breaking the law if you use a VCR old enough that it's not affected. There are some DVDs you can't even play if you're using a VCR as an RF modulator.

Thats what they used to do at my primary school back in the 90s.

BBC and Channel 4 used to actually broadcast educational programmes in the 90s for the main purpose of schools taping them and showing them to kids. It even had a reminder to record at the start of the programme.

:P
nope.

I taped a ****load of awesome basketball games (including Jordan's last Bulls game vs the Jazz in the finals and "the shot"). And also tons of Pokemon. I hope I don't get sued :tinfoil:
